IT took me awhile but I finally got around to take off the thermostat housing.

Should I just go ahead and pull the heads or would it be easier to pull the whole engine. The engine looks fairly simple to come out and I would be able to do a better job cleaning and inspecting parts.
If you have a cracked block leaking in to the oil shouldn't it be cloudy/milky?
Is it possible to have a bad head/gasket and not get compression in the surge tank?
Should i still try the remove the thermostat housing and look for bubbles?

The upper rad hose does not get hard when it is cold and didn't build any psi and I drove the truck to get it hot and it had the normal psi in the surge tank. I hooked up the tester and ran it at full throttle for a few minutes. It only went up a few psi so i gave it a pump and notice the gauge...
