    1996 Silverado 6.5 Duramax swap

So I haven’t really been doing much to the truck itself lately. I just resigned from my current job and took a week off before I start my new job. So just been ordering stuff and waiting. I did get the heater hoses and coolant lines finished up. And the rest of the driveshaft in. Turns out my...

    1996 Silverado 6.5 Duramax swap

Ok yes true. But what I did for the tank lines in cut off the 45 closest to the tank on the gmt800 duramax lower hose. And left the 90. And added 17” of straight 1” radiator hose. 1” aluminum tubing to join the 2 together. And for the heater core return I did the same same and joined the 5/8...

    1996 Silverado 6.5 Duramax swap

I’m not running the factory air box. I have the aem cold air intake. It’s aluminum tubing with dry filter. I’m really not trying to re invent. Just trying to not do the same old swap everyone already has.

I And again for anyone looking to sas these are the rear brackets for the leafs. These are now 2 years old and have gotten a lot of use on the original build thread truck

    1996 Silverado 6.5 Duramax swap

Ya the carrier bearing actually sits higher then yoke on the tcase so the drive shaft actually goes upward a little. The 271 is big! I may take off the top plate on the carrier bearing cross member and build a shorter one or lift the trans a little. But there isn’t much room for clearance...

    1996 Silverado 6.5 Duramax swap

Got the front part of the rear driveshaft bolted up too. Thank got I measured righ. Would have been a $800 mistake! I ended up going with 1-1/2” diameter spline and 1410 u joints all the way back. I considered 1480 just for wow factor but decided it would probably be just a waste. We will see...

    1996 Silverado 6.5 Duramax swap

Also doing the final mount for the t-case. With the fender well cut to clear the intercooler lines there’s no support for the battery. The fender well just flexes with the weight so I bent and welded a bracket to the bottom of the battery tray and bolted it to the intercooler/radiator bolt...

    1996 Silverado 6.5 Duramax swap

So I decided to change it up a little bit. Just for my liking. I’ve been looking at the duramax swaps into different things. And pretty much everyone sets the trucks up like factory gmt800. As far as batteries intake and coolant tank. I’m changing mine to more like gmt400. Factory coolant tank...

    1996 Silverado 6.5 Duramax swap

Mail call!! Finally got my federal emissions heater pipe. Turbo hose and heater hose. And 2 different t-case shifter linkages for the nv271. One is for dodge and one is ford. Gotta figure out the shifter issues with clearances.

    1996 Silverado 6.5 Duramax swap

It’s not! I just never thought about pulling down the headliner while I’m at one. I’ll have to do that this weekend. If I do I’ll take pics

    1996 Silverado 6.5 Duramax swap

On my 99 suburban k2500 they are super solid! And no noticeable wind resistance. But that's a burban roof if may have extra support in hose areas. Anyone ever cut up and scrapped a gmt400 truck and see the inside? Of completely remove the headliner??

    1996 Silverado 6.5 Duramax swap

Good info! From what I saw in the junk yard there is a double wall. Below the clearance lights about 2 inches there is a second shee of metal. But that was a '92 I believe. Don't know if there is a difference between years. Similar to Mr. Marty I actually want to put the factory suburban or...

    1996 Silverado 6.5 Duramax swap

Damn! I was hoping not to hear that. Have you tried replacing them with the aftermarket ones and new gaskets?

    1996 Silverado 6.5 Duramax swap

Ya that's what I'll probably have to do. The thread I found with measurements the guy was able to buy an aftermarket harness that was clip in ready to the firewall block. I tried looking but never found one. I guess I'll have to look up car part .com again to get it. My junk yards never get...

    1996 Silverado 6.5 Duramax swap

    1996 Silverado 6.5 Duramax swap

That sucks. Indidnt think about leaks at all I'm glad you. Brought that up! My dually never leaked befopre and those gaskets were pretty old. Anyone else have leak issues on theirs?

    1996 Silverado 6.5 Duramax swap

My mirrors have the running lights and blinkers in them. So with the running lights on that's what I'm worried about. Just too many lights.

    1996 Silverado 6.5 Duramax swap

I'm on call this week so I haven't made any progress on the trick all. But I do have a question for you all. I've been going back and forth on cab clearance lights. I love they way they look. My 94 dually had them and I updated them to the LED But can't decide if they will look funky with the...
