I'm sorry to hear that you're dealing with similar issues. Life can be challenging sometimes. Non working equipment is definitely frustrating. I hope you can get it working soon.
Thank you Will, definitely a lot of good information here from everyone that will ensure I get it balanced correctly. From everything posted it really seems like balance issues.
Hopefully my mistakes and ignorance with balance on the 6.5 will help someone else in the future. As I don't drive...
Cool, thanks for the info. Lots to do. Might be a bit but I'll definitely take everyone's suggestions and see what I find. Busy summer, don't always get the time to wrench on it and luckily it's not my daily driver
.
Dbrannon79, yes you're right. It does have a Scat crank. I didn't think about balancing the crank with the rods unfortunately, big mistake. The fluid damper is supposed to help? It probably is but due to the potential balance issues it's been very interesting. Kinda changed my opinion on a few...
Wil, you're totally correct. I feel the same way, just sometimes the easy answer seems appealing although not smart financially. Pulling the engine out and getting it balanced is a pain but definitely cheaper than buying another used truck with high miles and it's probably for sale due to items...
Very interesting, was kind of afraid of that! Going to disconnect the flex plate from converter one more time just to see but considering everything else I've looked at balance seems to be the item that continues to pop up in my mind too. The newer injection pump has made a huge difference...
Thank you Will for the input and suggestions. I agree 💯 that the softer mounts only mask it. I'll try unbolting the torque converter from the flex plate again to see if that helps.
I'm thinking it might be injectors as the vibrations between 1300 and 1400 appeared after driving it for awhile...
Hello again to everyone in the forum. Well I thought things were improving on the vibration issue with this engine but they have not totally disappeared. Since my last update I have made some additional changes unfortunately. I've been daily driving the truck for awhile to put some hours on the...
Sorry you had to deal with injection pump issues too. That's unfortunate to hear the owner of SS Diesel is having heath issues. Seems like replacement staff is failing terribly. I know I'll never buy from them again as they wouldn't even respond to a warranty claim and they kept my deposit for...
It's a 97, I have a tech 2 clone. Even with the proper tools it's very challenging. I set it once but it was on the edge of being too advanced so I'm guessing it's out of tolerance slightly
Thank you. Yeah, I was thinking about it for a bit but I like the 6.5 and the truck and have so much invested in a new engine I couldn't.🤣.
The help was great, thanks to everyone for the advice and ideas.
Hopefully my issues will help someone else in the future. It was a painful lesson for me...
Thanks for the suggestion it does have a Fluiddamper installed and the Leroy Diesel one piece assy pulley.
Hopefully I can enjoy this thing a little now. Timing seems a little bit off still but I'll check it again this weekend. I have all the tools necessary to do it properly, just need the...

Hello, just wanted to follow up with my findings with the extreme vibrations I was experiencing with my 6.5. Thank you Will and everyone else for all of the help and suggestions. Sorry it took so long, March was very busy for me and I couldn't find the time to tear into it. I finally did and...
The bolts were torqued and blue loctite when I installed it. It has less than probably 1.5 hrs runtime due to the vibrations. It definitely has me wondering.. for less than 60 I can put in a new one, kicking myself for not installing a new one when I re-built it. Lessons learned, lets hope that...
Thanks, I think based on what I see a new plate will be replaced. I'll probably pull the plate, check the face of the crank for issues before ordering a new flex plate. Still puzzled as to if this would cause that much vibration. I guess it all adds up so any little thing could make it worse.
I intentionally disabled the fuel system to see any warping not seen when engine is running. It has a new fluidamper and solid pulley wheel that is new as well
