Thought I'd post a few pics of a GN trailer project I picked up, that had been an insurance fire loss. Spent last summer rebuilding; took a little more time than expected (my projects tend to go that way). But wound up with a trailer that I've got a bit less than typical used cost in, but all...
2005 26ft PJ GN Carhauler auction project

If AGR's GM application tool is correct, it shows their same model #'s (Superbox #1 or #2) fitting the 88-98 as well as up into the 2000's? I also found a picture of a box online with AGR's signature caps, that also happened to show the box casting number. It was the same as the '04 box I've...
Does anyone know if the GMT800 Delphi box out of an '04 K2500HD has any updates/improvements over the Saginaw "84" casting steering boxes the GMT400 8600 GVW trucks came with?
I'm grafting on the GMT800 2 piston brakes/steering knuckles & rebuilding the front end: bushings, ball joints...
I'm just getting back to this project which got back-burnered, over a 26' GN carhauler project I bought & finished last summer. Have been sandblasting & powdercoating up the '04 brake calipers/cal brackets, knuckles, lower control arms, etc. Rebuidling the calipers, all new bearings/R&P in the...
x2 on the use of torch heat to break loose the corrosion before drilling. If they're broken down into the hole, I use a transfer punch when possible for the best chance of getting a centered punch mark to start drilling.
I also like to use a regular stud (for strength, as A2 stainless is...
That oughta be plenty fast/high enough resolution to see a reasonably smooth curve. And then for your application, can you use either the rpm freq input, or use inj pump optical sensor freq input (or crank angle sensor) so you can index the pressure readings correctly to crank angle.
Believe...
There was an article on Duramax tuning, injection timing etc., in the Maxx Torque magazine (maybe just online now?) a few years back, that showed plots of cylinder pressure - vs - crank angle, that if memory serves would give some idea of cylinder pressure. And I would have guessed the data to...
I just replaced my brake light switch @ 195k miles. Solved the problem. Was causing just the type of thing you mention. Co-workers would tell me my brake lights were on, but didn't see it myself to confirm for a couple months. Finally when probing the switch wires to see if it was the...
If anybody wants to try replacing the easier to get to seals to stop a leak, here's a link to the place that sells the MBM rebuild kits to end-users:

Here's something to check out: http://www.optrand.com/fliers/PSIglow4Jan2007.pdf
I've read that GM was considering using some type of in-cylinder, real-time cyl pressure monitoring for an upcoming diesel. Don't know which one?
The concept of having the pressure sensor incorporated into...
One reason some shops prefer not to coat internal surfaces on a turbine (or exhaust manifold) of turbo-charged engines is the question of any coating delamination particles damaging downstream components like the turbine wheel.
I mentioned the Cermakrome or Chromex ceramic coating's corrosion...
Here's a link to one of the coating company's articles that shows some testing results that compare a few different coating's characteristics.

www.techlinecoatings.com is another source of good quality products
sctrailrider is correct that it's difficult to adequately etch/profile the internal passages to ensure coatings won't delaminate. Also you can't easily spray many internal passages so you wind up "flow coating" them, which amounts to letting surface tension pull/run the material over the...
Do also check to ensure oil can freely drain back to the pan also. As stated above, the seals aren't really designed to be an absolute/positive seal, but more so the vast majority of oil follows the easier path (which should be the drain path to the pan).
More than one rebuilt turbo has been...
The Powermaster starter has been in for somewhere btwn 4-5 years(~40k miles).
Had an issue with starter bolts working loose, & then snapped one. Guess that's happened with the stock starters also,...but still an issue. Starter itself is still cranking the engine well/fast & hasn't shown any...
I would expect sideways might be best in the oil cooler application, so any % of the oil in the cooler that will actually drain back thru the lines & into the pan gets removed during an oil change. May not be a high % of the cooler volume of oil that actually makes it back to the pan to drain...
One potential reason would be the challenges in getting some of the coatings (ceramics in particular) applied evenly to the correct thickness on the inner surfaces of irregular shapes like exh manifolds. One common cause of the ceramics delaminating is too thick application. Spraying around...
