Update to my list of shop tools - added GMTD Scan Tech. Nice piece of software.
Also I have my lathe up and running now, but it's nothing fancy.
Got my truck on the road this past November and loving it :)
Yeah it's not a lot of work but you would have to pretty much have the wrong one coming to you for practically nothing like I did to make it worth it. I just don't think that they're that expensive.

Nice paint work! I didn't even have any holes in mine but saw where the PO had patched it. I just didn't feel like crawling around in the mud under that rig again if I could avoid it. The Dorman replacement that I got for my pickup felt really well made and I am glad I put it up there.

SnowDrift, a better way to accomplish this would be to disconnect the fuel shut off solenoid. A healthy IP will draw fuel from the tank without the lift pump, but it's going to put more load on the transfer pump vanes so this isn't recommended. Let the lift pump run because it will keep your IP...
I got my truck with accident damage and was given an 80's gasser to pick apart. Here is what I had to do:
-Cut larger opening for radiator
-Add holes for battery tray bolts on both sides, as well as clearance for a socket as these go through a tubular section.
-Cut lower brackets for the ac...
I used NiCopp for everything and found it really easy to work with. I learned about the reactivity to biofuel blends after installing the NiCopp fuel lines, so there may come a time when I'll have to replace the fuel lines, but let's hope that is a while away. I've used stainless lines on many...
Good points Will, regarding the splayed main suggestion I was merely going on my observations of the thin area around the outer main bolts on the webs in the block and the lower ends of the cylinder bores, and combining it with literature of heavily built 6.5s and failures. I am not experienced...
IDI engines are great workhorses, will run on just about anything, and are pretty simple. The amount of mixing they provide is great and makes it possible to run a low pressure injector with good results. Seen plenty of em burn really clean. The shrouding in the head that makes up the prechamber...
Just a quick update - got most of the body panels on and it seems that the frame needs further tweaking. I'm working on contacts with frame machines - I tried backing it up chained to that poor cherry tree and I'm just breaking stuff and bending my chains. I have all but the left front mount on...
Checked transfer pump pressure then decided to try swapping the pump. I had spoken to a friend on Friday though and he was ready to put money on a couple of injector lines being swapped. I dismissed the suspicion during our conversation because I had taken a photo of the injector lines on the...
TDCO set and sounds the same. -1.47*. Took off the return line from the IP and at idle fuel flow looks uniform. I suspect the IP but am not finding anything other than the noise that convicts it of causing the problem.

Thanks AK. I will get it timed. There is a small amount of blow by but that smoke is from bleeding injector lines (block and manifolds saturated in fuel) and loose down pipe clamp with smokey exhaust due to this issue. The engine has tightened up a lot since the oil has finally gotten churned up...
Well folks the saga continues. I have replaced all 8 injectors twice as well as the IP and can't get rid of what I thought was injector knock. Please have a listen to this video - if anyone has any words of wisdom please let me know! By the way the IP that I installed was used and of unknown...
OK I've got an interesting one...
I'm a 6.5 noobie. Just bought one this past November and thanks to folks from this forum and others I've been able to get it running. The trick is that it has a loud rap when you blip the throttle. Idle is a little uneven but not terrible. It sounds like a bad...
Success!!!!!!!
Good evening everyone. I want to announce the huge success I've had on this project today! :D:thumbsup::hihi::hello::agreed:
Kudos to AK - you hit the nail on the head. I burned a stock BPAA chip from the files on dripspeed's site. Took apart a memcal and reassembled it with my...
X2 on air dams, quality coolant, clean stack and free exhaust.
Many advise free/open exhaust on any diesel for lower EGT, better turbo response and greater efficiency. Better to release your fuel's energy through the wheels than to blow it outta the radiator!!
I put a cobbled up air dam on my...

I'd also check the parts numbers sticky for the solenoid. Something about possibly scrapping a starter and ring gear rather than replacing a solenoid (which you MIGHT be able to change without even removing the starter!!!) just doesn't sit well with me.
If the two solenoids were in...
WW...thank you VERY MUCH for that write up. Great info.
My truck isn't too bad and my brother has a gasser with a good nose sitting up at his shop - said I could have anything I needed off it. Is the radiator support the same on a gasser and diesel?? I never thought to ask....hmmmm...
******BUMP*******
How's everyone making out on this? Very educating thread, thanks to all for the financial and time investment that they've made so that others could get an education. Looks to me like you folks had some pretty awesome projects going.
I'm specifically interested in the...
