    Glow Plug diagnosis

I think he said it was a last ditch effort to get an already thrashed engine/vehicle on a trailer. I have done that before. I hate using ether but sometimes you don't have a lot of choice. I prefer to have someone helping me so I can give little bits at a time while its cranking.

    Glow Plug diagnosis

In my opinion it isn't worth it to have the fast ones. I took apart a 6.2 that had 2 nubs and somehow processed the tips and kept running. Pistons looked a little rough but it stayed running with no extra noise. I am picky about little things like GP's If the duraterms are a little tougher...

    93 turbo wastegate ?

I have the truck manifold setup on my new engine sitting on the test stand. Just for testing you understand. No load so the turbo gm4? just spins but man it looks like a restriction just sitting there. So tiny compared to the new hx40 and the s300? that is sitting in my van. Not sure why GM...

    Glow Plug diagnosis

got them bookmarked. Pretty sure it is an AD244 alternator. sure fits nice compared to all the other alternators that have been in that spot. lol It worked pretty good at first. I will be taking a spare alternator with me just in case. Wish the vans had enough room for two alternators. On...

    Glow Plug diagnosis

Ahh that explains a few things. I never had any luck with glowplugs until I started running the 60G's. I have run 60g over an hour on battery being charged with 2 gauge jumper cables. Thats pretty darn tough in my book.

    Glow Plug diagnosis

I'll tell you it always made me a bit nervous. It ran that way for a number of years and I did occasionally have to replace head lights and running lights. I have replaced the occasional dash light since I got it in '95. Not more then 3 though. Now I have some fancy 250 amp Alternator that...

4x4 Chevy 6.5 turbo diesel van project.

Fiddling with timing. The current ebay specials on the timing kits that clamp to the injector line read completely different then the luminosity probe kind. Previous engines I just lined the marks up and let go out the door. My last engine had a newer style cover with the db4 pump. There were no...

    Glow Plug diagnosis

Stock engine will cycle the glow plugs for a bit after the engine starts. Had an alternator on the van at one time that put out 15.5 to 16 volts. I'd think that would have taken out those old glowplugs but maybe most of the amperage was going into the bats. Eventually I got tired of replacing...

    Glow Plug diagnosis

I have a hard time imagining this happening with 60G plugs. Some of those old one maybe but I have battery charger on my test engine right now and it runs solid when I am messing around with starting and restarting the engine. Amperage comes through the batteries and shouldn't be detrimental to...

    93 turbo wastegate ?

I agree with sctrailrider. If you notice that the boost falls off and you have more black smoke then the problem might be a turbocharger. Generally though the boost follows the amount of fuel up to the point the wastegate opens or you run out of turbocharger. It may be possible that the...

I hear you on the cam thing. I was thinking about a cam "upgrade" and did some research on it a couple years ago. On a different forum they were discussing the ins and outs and it completely made sense to me that on boosted engines it will make less of a difference. Mostly the cams seem to make...

Oh man you are lucky you didn't break a crank or something. But yeah that counterweight would be 180 Degrees out of phase which would be the equivalent of double that weight out of balance. eeeks. You one lucky man.

You got that dead to rights. I'll check that out. Sounds interesting for sure. :nailbiting::hilarious: Lol I got a few engines like that. Seriously though water before the turbo can cause serious erosion issues especially the bigger the particles are. Those blades are turning so fast it can...

    Why a 6.5?

Well I lean toward 1993 and older with upgrades from the newer engines. I have a 94 suburban but mostly using that one for parts. Last January I spent the most money ever on a used 1993 C3500 dually crew cab. $1700.00 Sure it had a horrible blown gasket but a little patch and I drive it every...

    Why a 6.5?

Tsk tsk tsk. No apologies for dumping money into drive train components no matter the age. I also carry parts insurance on my '83 chevy van that has the turbo 6.5 in it. It also has fairly new 4L80E and a new rebuilt np208 transfer case with locking and limited slip diffs. Now some people would...

4x4 Chevy 6.5 turbo diesel van project.

You know I have a sensor location issue. It is far from ideal. There just isn't enough space to get the last sensor post all the injectors. Each two cylinders shares an injector with the current build I cant get a sensor beyond that without drilling a hole I don't want to drill, at least with...

4x4 Chevy 6.5 turbo diesel van project.

The thing I worried about with the rubbing was that it could hold an injector open. The rubbing was against a sharp edge on some and raised a bur that I was afraid could build up and hold the valve open just a bit. So why did you take that cam out?

4x4 Chevy 6.5 turbo diesel van project.

I am using the Devils Own setup. Including their pump. I think it is like 250 psi though I may have it set at 200psi. It makes a pretty big difference when I am pulling and it comes on. It's like a kick in the seat of your pants. turbo pressure will jump from 17 psi to 20-22 instantly.

I have the new engine on the engine stand running. Not a test stand and definitly not heavy duty enough. I pieced together scraps of other engines so I could run it. Just have to get the timing worked out. Seems to idle fine at just about any timing which is kinda weird. My db4 marine based...

Some pics of my current engine. Note the dual EGT probes and the "nest" of water lines and sensors in the intake. I like to know whats going on in my engines. Note the size of the turbo and no wastegate. No room for one. Also note the aluminum foil wrapped in aluminum tape. Yes the heat does...
