You thinking a head gasket?
I took the truck to my fathers, we grabbed a hose and poked around and the sound is heard most right where the downpipe meets the exhaust. That Vband is leaking bad, but, as mentioned earlier I took that apart, fired up the truck and the noise was still there so I...
Spent almost 3 hours today, pulling out the fenders, egr blocker plate, reinstalling said plate, disconnecting the exhaust from the downpipe, adjusting the vband on the back of the turbo as it didn't look seated right, losingt the vband nut, had to walk to home depot for another one. I did...
I will check that. Since the noise I have is getting worse I'm back to believing its something other than typewriter tick. I can now hear the noise all through the rpm range. Still no performance issues so I am left to believe it's most likely exhaust. Its a UT holiday tomorrow so I am some time...
Thanks Will L. Thank you all for your expertise. I still don't like the sound and will be more than relieved when it goes away but for now I am happy to know its just a 'normal' noise.
Will L, MrMarty51, Thank you
I took a soapy bottle to the exhaust on the passenger and back side of the engine, nothing. Drove it to work this morning and had a buddy take a listen, who sent a short video to a fellow duramax owner. He quickly replied it typewriter tick, calm down.
I didn't...
Didn't get to touch the truck last night but I was able to pull the pass fender this morning before work along with putting a socket on the two egr bolts where the blocker is. I got a 1/4-1/2 turn out of the one on the center side of the engine. No change. Looking at the pass up pipe, manifold...
I would have to consult the truck on that one.:woot:
First things first. I'm removing/cleaning the egr blocker plate and reinstalling. Then soapy water. Leaf blower enema if all else fails as I don't have one handy and would have to sweet talk the ol girl into taking one for the team.
Thank you Will I will try the soapy water. I'm down to 2 with me and the wife but that should work. It very much sounds like an exhaust leak on a gas truck. I'll report back when I can pull the fenders and get under with the spray bottle.
Good Monday morning all,
I was coming back from vacation Sunday afternoon and I think I have developed an exhaust leak. Looking to have that validated and a couple opinions.
To start off I changed the fuel filters on my fass to the CAT counterparts Saturday before returning home so they are...
In looking for all the grounding points I need to check I stumbled across this and figured I would attach for future reference. Hope it helps others hunting down these electric gremlins.

Starting at page 55 you...
Sounds very much like what I experience. The truck did it again to me this morning. 20F degrees outside, went to start and the "service brake system" warning came on, followed by a weird hesitation with the starter and then once started the "change engine oil" warning popped up again.
If I'm correct isn't there a specific solder to use on electrical connections? I've been meaning to do the BIG 3 upgrade on the truck for future stereo/electrical add-ons, I have plans to crimp and solder all my connections and want to use the right stuff.
EDIT: Google says I want lead free...
Thank you Will L. I will check those. I'll trace the battery cables to the non battery ends and make sure everything is clean and tight. I will also check the ECM and BCM. As far as ACM goes, is that the equivalent of asking the local parts store for blinker fluid? :woot:
btfarm, when you say...
I have been having some random, wacky, on and off problems with my truck and what seems like a grounding problem. I'm hoping one of you might be able to shed some light on my issues and I can get this resolved.
I have had a recent issue where my engine oil life suddenly drops to zero when...
Good to see you got your truck back on the road Paul. Let me know if you need a camera man to record your runs so we don't lose it in the weeds again :D. I'm missing that 6.5 sound.
The hose seemed firm when cold. I was able to squeeze/squish it down, but pretty firm. I will blow out the cap and see where that gets me. Its supposed to snow here on Sunday so it will be cold enough to trigger the leak.
