How many miles do you drive between oil changes and have you ever had a UOA done?

In the truck, I did it every 5k. Had a UOA done a few times with different oils, it never had any red flags and Blackstone told me I could bump it up to 10k without any issues. The VW requires synthetic and gets changed every 10k. Haven't had a UOA done in that yet.

    smartphone ?

Mine will do the same thing (HTC EVO)... it'll download all the stupid example photos and some screenshots stored in the phone that seem to come back even once they're deleted. Instead of using HTC sync, I normally just select "mount as disk drive" on the phone options when connecting the USB...

    lbz glow plug questions

Mike, here's my take on the P0402 (EGR flow excessive) with a blocked EGR: It may have an intake leak somewhere downstream of the MAF. EGR flow is calculated by the MAF reading; the reduction in airflow past the MAF should technically equal what is going through the EGR. Since yours is blocked...

Suspension rattle that is driving me crazy

Ride the brakes lightly while you go over a section of road where you know it happens (keep your foot on the gas to maintain speed). If it goes away with your foot on the brake, my $$ says it's the caliper pin bushings. Happens to a lot of GMT-800 trucks.

    lbz glow plug questions

That's (sort of) why I got rid of mine...taking the heads off is big money. It had the crimped head gaskets that seem to like to leak and the upper hose felt really stiff after sitting overnight on a couple of occasions. The dealer told me it was a $5k job to do both head gaskets... that's a lot...

    lbz glow plug questions

Did the tip burn out and break off inside the cylinder, or did the glow plugs twist and break when the dealer tried to remove them because they were frozen to the aluminum head?

    Ok Wilford Brimley :hihi:

Whats your favorite candy/ candy bars?

Life Savers orange mints (the big individually wrapped ones in the bag). I can destroy a bag of candy corn also. Not much of a chocolate or candy bar person, the only one I like is a Heath bar. There's a small ice cream joint in CT that makes a killer sundae with soft serve and heath bar chunks...

    Mileage question 1500 6.2 vs 2500HD 6.0??

The 6.0 will average 12-13, 15 on the highway if you drive miss daisy. Mine got 11-13 towing a 7X14 enclosed parachute haulmark trailer with 6 dirt bikes and gear. That was my 01 2500HD with the 4L80E and 4.10's. The 6L90 trucks with 3.73's get about the same mileage from what I've read...

I agree, that looks black like oil.

What fuel additive do you use and what do you use it for?

Grey PS @ 1/2oz/gal. The Bosch CP4.1 has a reputation for self destructing and filling the fuel system with metal shavings in VW's, especially if they get the slightest whiff of gasoline. Going to give it whatever help I can.

    Soft Brake pedal

Found this example from when I almost died putting brakes on in the middle of July.

    Soft Brake pedal

Hose in the glass jar, cap off the master cyl, crack the bleeder and let gravity do the work. No pumping (it takes a while). I would siphon out the reservoir, fill it with fresh fluid, crack the bleeder, compress the caliper pistons so all the crud goes out the bleeder and not back up the lines...

    Soft Brake pedal

I would start by checking the pads for uneven wear which would indicate binding caliper slides and/or corrosion around the pad ears and retainer clips which these trucks are famous for. Cleaning and lubing the caliper pins with synthetic disc brake grease as well as removing any rust from the...

    I'm insane

Decided to go with a different group for this bike... it was offered with a Shimano mechanical group or their new electric one for the same price. I initially went with the mechanical, but had the shop order it with the electric group instead. Curious to try this out because a lot of people had...

Why not to use PVC for the shop

I've got a lot of respect for compressed air, while I don't think the PVC itself is dangerous, hitting it with something hard while it's pressurized would be. Saw the aftermath of a DA mechanic who used compressed air to push the piston rod out of a bucket cylinder from a big Hitachi excavator...
