Meant to mention (post #8): using 125A starter, it showed very low current flow to batts. even when initially connected. Batts maybe bad? They're about 2 yrs old. Mild SoCal climate, mid to low 40's last few weeks.
Installed new belts, now, alternator is not charging.
I had to use my 125 amp charger/starter unit to move Blazer to dry ground. Installed belt(s), let motor run for ½ - ¾ hr with charger still hooked up.
Could this combo fry the alternator??
About 15 years ago, this car kept going through...
I feel like an idiot!
The alternator vee belt was broken/gone.
I noticed something dangling under the motor, when I felt it, I knew.
This happened once about 15 yrs ago, it all came back. The weaker the batts, the longer the cranking.
I hadnt done anything as its been raining here, & I must work...
Yesterday I hopped in the Blazer ('84 6.2) & started her up. Took the usual amount of cranking for cold (for here) weather start.
It has always when hot started with first piston compression stroke coming up. Went to store, then restart, it took a bit of cranking. Next stop, starting took even...
My '84 Blazer (4wd diesel) alignment is screwed up! Driver side tire is wearing out on the outside badly. No four wheeling in 8 years, some dirt roads but not bad ones, 99% pavement driving. Prolly 2,000 miles per year. (I'm retired) Passenger side tire is fine. Had it for 17+ years and used to...
I looked for a shop to look at the car, none of the ones I tried locally would work on any pre 1995 diesels.
Finally got a 'mobile' mechanic to look. Cooling system would NOT hold pressure, He found (eventually) the heater core inside cab was leaking. Leak ran forward to firewall and down into...
I posted before about my Blazer 6.2 with blown head gaskets. No one around here wants to mess with "pre 1995" diesels.
I am 71 years old do not want to major repair/swap motors anymore.
I have an '84 6.2 that was good when removed from (84 suburban) the car. Its been sitting on the back porch...
I have allus used ATF because of its very high detergent rating. Dont know how good its lubricating qualities are, but on old 'gummed' up engines it noticeably improves mileage and stops or limits smoke, , ,
Radiator is newest item on the car! Its 5 or so years old, one of those aluminium/plastic ones. (has gm part num got it from a big ac/cooling/radiator shop).
I figured it is head gasket, even before, oh well, , , ,
Sorry, meant to mention, oil is ok. If bubbles are in the crossover, where are they going? Not out the radiator fill. No bubbles there at all.
I figured head gaskets, , , , ,
I had pulled the head off a bad motor many years ago, (25 yrs), as I recall, the biggest problem was the weight of the...
Lately, as in the last month, my '84 Blazer with 6.2 diesel has started really going through water. So much, right now I'm not adding antifreeze, just water.
It does not have any external leakage, exhaust pipes are dry, (no water at all there)
After letting it run till thermostat opens, no...
Had a Ford F-100 (½ ton) pu with the "300 6" engine, Powerful, but, from stop and go traffic to freeway speeds, it got about 12-12 ½ mpg (sometimes less, never more). Combined with the 'twin I beam' front, a thoroughly miserable car, , , , , ,

(edit: 1975 model)
'84 diesel Blazer. The left front tire on my Blazer has started wearing rubber (a lot) off the outside edge, 'like too much toe-in?', but only on left tire. Has not been off-road for 6-7-8 years, no curb banging or similar abuse. Not even sustained 2wd off road use. With the solid axle front...
I am curious, I thought 'C' always designated trucks & 'K' designated Blazers.
My '82 pu has C-10 'badge'' on it & my (2 of 'em) Blazer has K-10 on it.
Why do so many refer to 'trucks' as K10, K20, etc?
Just wondering, , , ,

(my 'Helm' book refers to the Blazers as K models & trucks as C)
