A few updates for the old girl:
Added 2 inch spacers to the rear.
I found a massive garvin rack on marketplace for cheap. Must have gone to an h1 or something bc it was 72"x79" and all beef.
I got chopped it down and got rid of a lot of cross bars. It still probably weighs 60+ lbs.

as far as rationale, they explained it like the alternator went out and that in turn caused the starter to die. Thankfully, the batteries are fairly new according to the PO

I'd have to defer to the interwebs for a full answer. As for similarities, my understanding is much if not all of the front end is the same as 3/4 and it has the 4l80e. Differences: rear spring rates, gearing, rear is semi float...I'm sure there are more things I'm not aware of

Well, I made the 1500 mile journey back home just fine - she drove like a dream. I think the tstat and fan/clutch will be the first order of business. Temp climbed at a stop twice. Once to 210 and once slightly over. Cranked the heat and it came right back down. Other than that it was perfect
