    New owner of a 6.2, K5 Blazer

Welcome to the site. That’s a nice looking rig. Should serve you well in S.D. Agree with the advice on transmissions. The diesels got the 4L80s and for good reason so, if there’s still time, might want to talk to the transmission shop. JayTheCPA called it on the passenger side battery. It needs...

    CV Axle Seperation

I’ve been hesitant to resurrect this thread with a new issue but, don’t want to bog down the ‘What did you do to your 6.5 today’ thread with the resurgence of an old issue. CLIFF NOTES to save re-reading the thread. I’ve had a chronic issue with driver’s side half-shaft coming apart at the...

What did you do with your GMT400 today...or yesterday....

A few years ago I got an 85 Capric and the paint was pretty faded (original). Griott's Clay and Speed Shine to clean the paint. Then I used a their three step progressive polish with step three being fine. I used a different foam pad for each step and the wax with a Dual Action Sander...

What did you do with your GMT400 today...or yesterday....

Oh boy BigT, another paint job! Honestly, a good paint cleaning w/ clay, a light polish and, maybe a run down a dusty road, and nobody will know the difference.

Photo didn’t come through on the text. The racks look good. Well done getting the Rivnut (sp) repairs completed.

AWOL Bump Stop issue solved. New MOOG units arrived yesterday and went in this morning without issue. I get that the site says, ‘fits your 96 K1500” but, they look huge compared to the OEM units I saw on another K1500. Now why had my front differential decided to suddenly take a piss on...

Glow plugs: Bosch Duratherms or AC Delco 60G

No issues with Duraterms / therms…whatever. Had this set in for several years. When the heads were pulled Jan 23, they inspected good and, as such, have been re-used. No winter starting woes at 20 F or below last year and I didn’t use a block heater just to see how the new heads were working...

Crank, no start except with starter fluid

WarWagon’s suggestion to check on condition of batteries is sound. Have them tested and do as he says and check the battery cables as well. Starter motor may be giving up the ghost but, the two I’ve had fail just up and quit w/o a hint. Never know though. Any recent work done where the Glow...

Built a list of things to do post trip and, after getting postponed yesterday rescuing the Spousal Unit (flat tire), I started in on it today. Not Truck related was getting the lawn mowed early since it was in need before we left two weeks ago. Jacked up the back, drained the gear oil. Checked...

M-10 metric or SAE 3/8”? I was on their site and the metric product wasn’t available. 3/8” will strip threads when trying to torque.

You might try stripping one and just shoot the caliper paint on bare metal vs the enamel undercoat. That’s how I did my wiper arms and you saw how they turned out.

What did you do with your GMT400 today...or yesterday....

Been a long day driving and trying to stay awake. Gave up two hours from home. Anyway, the correct terminology that escaped me was ‘both the compressor and the turbine sides are supposedly redesigned. I once asked Bill if they just stuffed a wicked wheel in there. He looked hurt. Said they...

Crossed 260K as I got to The Dalles OR. May need to check the AC Charge. Poor system can't keep up with 114* Truck has been carrying us along just fine this trip. Other than the first couple of incidents, which I'm actually glad happened, no issues. Observation on past configurations vs...

Two different trucks. Amigo and I don’t drive the Land Speed Racer (LSR). I do help out here and there with parts, time, labor, sounding board, wrench turning etc. it, I’m 14.5 hrs of driving away from where it’s garaged so, helping throw a buck or two at it is about all I can do which sucks...

Checking placement, driver fitment, and such. Tomorrow confirming drive shaft balance on this one. Still have to outsource Roll Cage updates, parachute pushbar combo and fire suppression system. Who knows, we may make it to World Finals in September. For personal rigs, corrected one of the...

Had to have been a bad starter because the exciter wire was correctly attached to it. The question I have now is how the $%^&* did a 3/8” vs. M-10 Starter bolt get used in one of the holes?

You called it Brother. I’m sorry I missed your post. But, we’d already towed it to Wayne’s (the mechanic). When we walked in this morning to pick it up he had this grin on his face and I was already planning on asking, ‘so what stupid little thing did I miss?” So I just went with it as...

Thanks to everyone who’ve offered their assistance in sorting out the starter issue. . Mechanic sorted it all out in no time and I’m smacking my head repeatedly…. Yes, it was the exciter wire but it wasn’t…I put the exciter wire on the incorrect stud. Oh well, this is why we don't have nice...

With reference to the Relay in the Under Hood Fuse box. The relay is clicking and I’ve swapped in a known good relay from BigT’s ‘not a donor car yet’ suburban. It also clicks but, that’s the only life sign we have. With the Starter Relay removed, Yes, I have power to the relay’s connector at...
