Yes I did. According to others who have done this swap, they have used the crank position sensor on the cummins without issues. If you go to Dakota Digital's website, they state:
"Able to receive a signal from the "W" terminal found on some diesel alternators, a timing gear (crank trigger)...
Ok, so I'm a little confused as to what you mean. The adapter I'll be using is the Dakota Digital DSL-1E. From my understanding, I will be able to use the crank position sensor off the 12v cummins to run the original 6.5 tachometer?
So I actually was messing around with the dodge alternator & I found some issues. The alternator grinds when it spins, & the pulley was bigger than I believe it's supposed to be. I compared it to a off the shelf alternator for a 96 3500 & it had a much smaller pulley. So I found an alternator...
Not really wanting to do that. I don't 100% need to wire everything in, the cummins will run regardless, but it would be nice to have it all wired properly.
Ok awesome. How do you determine the correct size pulley you need? I'm guessing I wouldn't be able to just bolt the cummins 8 rib pulley onto the 6.5 alternator?
I was running a cs144 on my 6.5. Should I stick with that or change to something else?
Sand,
What do you do as for alternator wiring? Not sure how different the Humvees are from the pickups, but I'm gonna ask anyways & maybe someone will know. I have a 96 K3500 & I'm doing a 12 valve swap. I've been back & forth on if I should run a dodge alternator or not. I ordered a transgo...
Fellow Traveler, what will you be using for an alternator? I am debating on just using the dodge one & trying to wire it correctly or adapting like a CS144 onto the cummins.
Also, have you looked into making the grid heater work in conjunction with the key switch? I am currently doing this...
Hey guys,
As some of you are aware, I'm in the middle of a swap. I've been scouring the interwebs for information & everyone says they use this unit or that unit, but no one really goes into detail as to how they use it. I ordered a Dakota Digital unit to run the tach off the alternator, but...
Hey guys,
I have a few things for sale. These are all off of my 1996 K3500 (non dually, non egr, auto truck)
-Accelerator pedal (truck has 230k on it) $60 shipped
-Relocated PMD kit (Includes heat sink, extension cable, & #9 resistor. Not sure when replaced as stock PMD was still on pump) $60...
Alright folks. Happy holidays! Hope ya'll had a great time!
Here's what I received from Joel today. If there is any welders here, please feel free to chime in as I don't know welding.
Please let me know what ya'll think. Honestly, all I care about is strength. If what he says is true, then...
Ok. So I received an email back & he said he can refund me or he can make another set. I'm going to give them a second chance & have them send me another set. Hopefully the new set is a lot better. I'll let ya'll know.
The problem with that is the Screaminseeman mounts are actually custom custom. I'm not sure if he uses a previously made rubber sleeve or if he makes them himself, but they are like part of the mount. When I ordered them 3 years ago in my first attempt at this swap, the mounts would rotate...
I'll do that. I'll update ya'll as I hear back from him. My other thought process was what if I could have AVNW just send me the plates, & I could take them to get welded up. That might be even better? Obviously I would try to negotiate for a better price since it was supposed to be $250 for...
That's not a bad idea either. Screaminseemanoffroad.com has some mounts for $400 that are really custom. They utilize the stock 4 bolt mounts of the original 6.5 mounts. I like it cuz it has more bolts & just seems like it would be stronger. However, they are more expensive than the AVNW mounts...
Ok, I get it. 4l80e sucks, shoulda used the dodge trans.
MOVING ON. I'm really bummed here. I emailed Joel & he said that he has them in a jig that holds everything in place while he welds it. Ok, looks like something slipped but whatever. Secondly, that doesn't change the weld quality. Which...
Well I dont really want a manual honestly. I'd rather just get in & go. I daily drive a 6 speed corvette, so I have my fill of shifting with that. I really want to do an allison but the adapter plate was super stupid expensive as well as the controller. Plus the cost of the dang thing, it was...
I can try, but I just dont think that's going to work. I feel like that's going to be hard to argue considering this is "custom". I've never been in this situation before.
Alright guys,
So I've been in the process of swapping a 12v into my 1996 K3500. Without getting too detailed, I wanted to retain the 4l80e so as to try to keep the fabrication to a minimum.
I originally ordered an adapter plate, flex plate, & motor mounts from autoworld or...
Hey guys.
So I have a 96 truck. I pulled the motor & sold it. In its place, I'm installing a 12v cummins. Unfortunately, when I sold the motor, I didnt really think about the wiring at the time. I should have traced each line & figured out which wire went where.
Thought about buying a 6.5...
