It might be. I just finally drained the oil to check. There was enough fuel mixed in that it filled an empty 5 gallon bucket to within 3 inches of the top. So lot more fuel then I thought at first. Only suppose to have 8 quarts and she dumped out around 4.5 gallons.
I turned up the fuel screw. I went through the port on the side of the pump. I'll have to pull the top cover to see if something broke.
I left a message for the person with that chassis/engine this morning. Just waiting to hear back from them.
I don't have the exact numbers in front of me but I do know the pump is a .033 plunger db2 with the fuel screw turned up 1/2 a turn. It's never given me any problems before but I'm going to have it checked out before reusing it.
Yeah I haven't really found anyone who's used that company. So...
You're probably right about not being far off from a take out if I get parts from a good know supply house. That's why I'm debating if this place is any good. Course the phrase "you get what you pay for" keeps running through my mind when I compare prices.
I haven't found the "smoking gun" of...
So after the runaway issue and not really trusting the 6.5 block in my truck to another rebuild, would be #4 for it. I've started looking for parts to build the 6.2 block that I have. Block has already been machined .020 over and bearing a few years back. A quick cleaning and it'll be usable. In...
OK found some time after work to do some digging. Checked the oil and it does have some fuel mixed as it has a slight fuel smell. Checked the turbo for excessive shaft play and it is well within the normal range of movement.
Pulled all the glowplugs and pink wire from the ip and cranked her...
Oh I'm very glad I ran. My dad taught me at a very young age that when playing with cars to alway give yourself an out.
I'm 80% certain it's oil, could have fuel mixed in it. I'll check once I'm home from work. I don't recall it having a fuel smell to it. The oil level was still on the dipstick...
Didn't even think about the turbo itself. Good place to start since the whole intake is covered with oil internally. I'll check that and then I'll redo the compression test. Cranking it with no glow plugs will clear the cylinders of any excessive oil that didn't burn off.
I'm really hoping...
So an I posted in the carnage thread I had a slight issue with my 6.5 over the weekend. Little back story first.
The truck had been having transmission issues for a while and between lack of either money or time it took me about a year and half to finally fix it. So I finally get the trans fix...
Well I haven't pull it apart yet to confirm the carnage. But it's never good when the engine goes runaway and pukes about a quart of oil out of the intake. Leak down test produced a gargling sound out the oil fill tube.
Biggest problem with the 80s trucks would be clearance for a downpipe. You would have to almost mount the turbo above and perpendicular to the engine, making it really tall. I've thought about doing it on my 82 but if I did I would make a new intake manifold that would allow it to sit lower.
I actually just bought the wilton one to use since I don't have a strong enough workbench yet. Works pretty good. Has adjustmentioned screws to keep it snug in the hitch and comes with a hitch piece to mount it to anything else. Only complaint I have is it doesn't come out far enough to use it...
Depending on price I'm certainly interested in this. The one on my truck has been there a while. Plus being able to turn it full on/off will be handy when four-wheeling.
I agree with what Jay is saying. My stepside is worth more in parts then as a whole truck. So from a money stand point it doesn't make any sense to invest what I have in it. But it brings me a lot of enjoyment when I drive it so that's why I spend the money on it.
Personally if you're planning for either big power or keeping the truck basically forever I'd save up for a optimiser or P400. With what I spent on my engine rebuilding it after the crank broke and then a 2nd time due to bad bearings I was almost 2/3rds the way to the cost of a P400. But that's...
My parents had a 96 suburban that orginally had that single t-stat housing. Not sure what I did with it after I swapped the parts for the cooling "upgrades". Probably tossed it, guess I should of kept it. Course I do remember the truck cooling better with the full upgrades.
