    I've decided to do a Cummin's conversion

Traveller, what did you have to modify on your headlight assemblies to get them to fit? I have mega clearance issues with the 2nd gen intercooler in place?

    99 Suburban 6.5 to 5.9 Cummins Swap

I got my 2nd gen Dodge intercooler mounted in the core support. I was looking at other threads around the web and they all said that the factory radiator location is fine, and the IC fits between the stock GM rad and then there is room for the AC condenser. I’m unclear what is different about...

    99 Suburban 6.5 to 5.9 Cummins Swap

A guy gave me an idea for trans control: treat the Cummins/ECU like its a DB2 conversion. Is this a viable option?

    99 Suburban 6.5 to 5.9 Cummins Swap

Literally no idea. New PMDs didn’t work, new IP didn’t work, new PCM with reflash to remove passlock didn’t work. I figure I’d rather skip the PCM all together. Spent too much time and too much money trying to fix it. Love the truck, but the engine was a headache. Many people solve the...

    99 Suburban 6.5 to 5.9 Cummins Swap

Got the engine out, removed old mounts, cut off “ears” from frame motor mounts, chopped off diagonal supports, cleaned 20 years of grease/oil/diesel/power steering fluid/dirt from frame rails, clearanced trans tunnel pinch weld. I read reports of frames cracking, so I’m prepping the entire...

    99 Suburban 6.5 to 5.9 Cummins Swap

Got this out tonight. For those with lifted trucks and no vehicle lift, remove tires and put on jackstands as low as possible. I had to build a platform because the trans jack wasn’t tall enough. Planning on removing engine tomorrow evening.

    99 Suburban 6.5 to 5.9 Cummins Swap

Unfortunately I had already gotten to NAPA, tank dropped, and gotten new line installed before I saw the replies. Thanks for putting forth the effort though. Not much really accomplished this week. But some work is some work. Was able to get to local Pick Your Part this weekend because they...

    99 Suburban 6.5 to 5.9 Cummins Swap

Thanks for the compliments. I really should invest in a factory service manual to have on hand. They really have all of the important detailed stuff. Made a little progress this evening. Removed drive lines, disconnected PS without making a big mess, Dropped the tank, replaced the FSU...

    99 Suburban 6.5 to 5.9 Cummins Swap

All awesome information. Thanks. Wiring, I got as many wiring diagrams as i could off alldatadiy and vatozone's website. Is there anything else I should have in my arsenal before ripping into the engine harness? Things I would like to keep/add in the harness are the the glow plug signal to...

    99 Suburban 6.5 to 5.9 Cummins Swap

Now is about the time when I need to make a decision on the cooling systems. What is the best all around option for the radiator/intercooler? I have seen people use 1st gen Cummins rads, Powerstroke intercoolers, 6.5 rads, Duramax intercoolers, 2nd gen etc etc. I personally was thinking the a...

    99 Suburban 6.5 to 5.9 Cummins Swap

Got it started this weekend. Core support, crossover pipe, lower bellhousing, flex plate bolts, exhaust, harnesses, oil cooler, trans, etc taken care of. Gonna pull the 6.5 this weekend, have one big question: where are the lift points? I think this loop on the front by the AC compressor is...

All comments are noted. Thanks for the feedback. It's frustrating looking at it sitting in the shop with no room to do the work.

No water pump yet. I’ll snag one. Engine is stock as far as I know. Gonna have a local Cummins shop get the IP inspected to see what if anything has been done. I have a FASS pump and a new sender. Everything will be AN fittings.

    99 Suburban 6.5 to 5.9 Cummins Swap

I don’t follow. The 1st gen fan pulley on the 2nd gen fan hub/bracket puts the fan pulley way out of line with other puleys. And I’m just saying I wish to get a tensioner pulley that moves to the passenger side instead of driver to relieve belt tension.

    99 Suburban 6.5 to 5.9 Cummins Swap

It’s a Cummins bracket and the original tensioner. Part numbers above. Also, i’m Probably going to change to a counter clockwise rotation tensioner to get the belt on more easily.
