    Ignition switch harness plug

Switching out my ignition switch harness. Been stymied by a little white plug that is located on top of the tumbler area. It is not of the norm. I do not see how to remove it, and would rather seek advice than to break it and cause more issues. Since it is part of the harness, it has to be...

    Engine stoppage

All grounds good. Going to try replacing the ignition switch. There is a little white electrical connection that is placed on top of the tumbler. It is part of the ignition switch harness, but the connection is not of the norm. So not to break this connection, and cause further trouble, does...

    Engine stoppage

All battery terminals clean and tight (batteries are quite new). All grounds clean and tight (even the ones I added a while ago). Headlights work and the switch illuminates the instrument panel with or without the key turned on. When key is turned on the blinkers do not work...along with...

    Engine stoppage

Have a couple of new PMDs I carry in the glove box (just in case). Tried it. No change. No crank. No start. Instrument panel dim and flickering, and you can hear the fuel pump intermittently. Some sort of power issue I would think. Hopefully, someone out there has had these symptoms, and has...

    Engine stoppage

Truck is garage kept. Cold day. Started right up (all normal). Warmed truck up and started on my way. Less than a quarter mile away, the engine stops as if someone turned the key off. Made several attempts to restart. Truck would crank, but not start. When turning key on, the fuel gauge...

Towing potential advice from those "in the know"

Thanks for clearing up some of my confusion Thefermanator. Theoretically, a 15,000lbs. fifth wheel is within the realm of possibility. But, the rating is 10,000lbs., and the above responses about law issues are worth heading. I've got a triple axle Eclipse Attitude toy hauler, but to avoid...

Towing potential advice from those "in the know"

So, 10,000lbs. 15,000lbs. would be to much....? My gears are 4.63. I have done nothing to the transmission as of yet. I plan on a different torque converter, larger pan, and trans. temp gauge. Where can I find the GCVWR for this truck (the truck itself weights 15,000Lbs.).

Towing potential advice from those "in the know"

From the modifications that I have done, what can I expect to tow (total weight) consistently and reliably?

    1999 water pump removal

l'm going to need to replace my water pump. Looked for background in the reference area, but found none. From what I can tell, many plates come off. Seems to be more work than is needed to R/R a water pump. Anybody have good instructions, pictures, video?

    Water pump advise

I need to pull a fifth wheel (15,000lbs) a thousand miles. My water pump just went out. It was the stock high output type. For my purposes, will replacing with the stock variety be fine, or is there a better one out there?

    Fan clutch removal

Update: O'reily's sells a fan clutch holding tool (44180 p/n). But, it dose not fit the pulley. However, it makes an excellent fan clutch wrench. I used this along with a holding tool that I fabricated (basically, just a beefed up spanner wrench made out of 1/4" steel). Fan clutch came...

    Fan clutch removal

As far as I know, to remove the fan clutch, you get a 2" wench, hammer and whack the wrench to the passenger side. Mine will not release. Am I correct in the removal procedure? Is there a holding tool or procedure? Or, are the threads reversed? This is the first time to remove this in this...

    Coolant flush question

Is there a bleed valve on these trucks for burping the new coolant? If so, where? If not, what process is used to rid the system of air. I ask because this will be the first time (for me) to do this maintanence on this truck, and I don't want overheating issues due to air. Also, I have never...

    Fan/fan clutch modification

I need to enhance my cooling ability. I have heard about the mod involving the Dmax fan. But, I have never heard about what fan clutch to use. I have the HO water pump, and a spin on (one large nut) fan clutch. I was given part numbers for a fan and fan clutch (fan 15-80690, clutch 15-4691)...

Truck will not start after KOJO tuned ECM installed

Thefermanator can you give me more information on the proper fan clutch for tha Duramax fan modification? I looked up that part number (2886) on rockauto, but did not find that number or fan clutch.

6.5 transmission/rear differential: fluid type and amount

Jaythecpa...just read the thread you gave me. Raises more questions than answers. Doesn't the filter need to be changed? What is the process? Drain the pan, replace filter, then reuse the ATF. Trucks got a little over 100,000 miles on it.
