    I'm hoping that since there is only 3500 on its reman that it doesn't have engine issues but just needs a little tlc and the cob webs blown out. I've driven the same road with many 6.5's pulling a loaded trailer and they didn't have that much trouble holding 70mph.

    The only non gm we have is the Ford Edge and its partially retired after we bought the '17 Impala. Otherwise mostly obd1 trucks and now the obd2 454, might add another obd2 truck later on.

    Typically you can buy a running diesel truck for about the same price you can do the swap. Especially if you figure in the cost of your labor.

    Thank you for the tips. I will try to trace down the current issue with rail psi (who knows maybe all my problems stem from that). If it doesn't change I will try one more motor ops tune and if it doesn't help I will try the other tuners (might even try for a refund on my retune fee)

    I believe the axle swap idea is very possible, the truck had been T Boned in the bed when I bought it for the optimizer engine. The rear axle has all new studs suggesting a JY axle that had sat in the dirt

    I'd find another 8.1L. You won't gain any mpg going to a smaller engine in a big burb. If mpg is the goal then buy a 1500 burb or tahoe, quite a bit lighter.

    It's on my list. I know it was holding psi under load when it came out of the shop but that could have changed. I will t in a tester when I can stand up with out turning ghost white and coughing a lung up with 102° fever. Sitting in dr office as I type.

    There are some youtube videos of jy 454's making around 350-400 hp with an 850 carb. If a 0411, headers and exhaust can get 250 rwhp I'd be happy. Thats highly modded 6.5 territory with fewer engine concerns.

    I'll keep those gears in mind. I know my c3500 6.5 has 3.73s. Probably a custom ordered fleet truck, it might also have had the diff swapped and the only axle they found in 3.73 was a 2.5" brake set up. With 330k on it its hard to know.

    My thoughts exactly. I was luckily 1/2 mile from home rolling down hill and the truck kept idling, sounded like it had a lope. I have the flu, hopefully in the next day or 2 I get up the energy to try new fuel filters.
