Is the trans speed sensor required? Previous owner unplugged due to rough idle

Yeah I'm not sure which sensor is unplugged if there are two. Nor have I messed with it either! I'd just hate for something to crop up and I wouldn't know about it because the CEL is already on.

Is the trans speed sensor required? Previous owner unplugged due to rough idle

That's right, and it runs smooth with it out... though it's tripped the CEL on the dash. I actually care less about this than the CEL being on and hogging up its single notification method of something else needing to trigger it! Anyone experienced something similar?

Is there a typical range for a 6.5 between rebuilds?

Mine has 280k on the clock and I don't think it's ever been rebuilt, though the trans has. It runs great, but as I build it up to take my family into the backwoods for camping, I keep wondering about this. There's always the risk of course, but some expectations are better than rolling the dice...

6.5 newbie with what appears to be a blown turbo- what say you?

Well you guys will love this... it was the OPS! Wham, bam, thank you ma'am. A $50 AC/Delco part from the Chebby dealer plus 30 minutes of my time and the truck is back to running like a champ. I'm going to have to get another one of these as a spare. I pulled the OPS out and the plastic top had...

6.5 newbie with what appears to be a blown turbo- what say you?

Continued thanks, and yes I'm well aware that this is not a Cummins... the redundant LP-in-place idea is still a good one if I can make it work, though I'll likely take Leroy's advice and just stick it in a bag and have in the cab. Now, how much of this am I going to be able to get at through...

6.5 newbie with what appears to be a blown turbo- what say you?

Thanks for this- any words of wisdom or steps to take in order? It looks like it may be Sunday before I can tackle it all. Parts showed up today! I'm assuming the turbo is what's at the PO that I missed the signature for while at work. Will try and grab it tomorrow.

Many thanks, Leroy. And agreed on the weather and timing! Looking forward to it all. Mostly.

WarWagon- I'll be referring back through your notes as I go. The fuel gauge works fine. I know I have less than a fifth of a tank in the thing, so there won't be any problems turning it over and emptying it into a 5-gal. bucket one I drop it. I slid under there this evening and it appears to be...

6.5 newbie with what appears to be a blown turbo- what say you?

Yep, gotta love local distribution centers. There are more than I can count in DFW, the latest being Amazon's fulfillment center monster just down the road from me. Maybe I can beta test their new drone delivery program, or shoot them, one. The rest of Leroy's goodies will hopefully arrive...

6.5 newbie with what appears to be a blown turbo- what say you?

Yeah, I should point out I'd rather not take the camper off and wrestle the bed around. Dropping is possible, yes? There are about 5 gals. left in the tank, FYI, and I have a bucket that will take it all.

6.5 newbie with what appears to be a blown turbo- what say you?

Thanks, Will. Update, though perhaps not too surprising. After tending the battery for a day the truck started cold but stalled 10-20 seconds later. A few repeated attempts resulted in the same, though I'm definitely getting fuel out of the overflow tube up top still. However, now I'm...

6.5 newbie with what appears to be a blown turbo- what say you?

Thank you both- great info to keep digging with. Added to the list! Let me pair that with the order I just placed with Leroy this afternoon and you can tell me how best to proceed. :) - ATT - Diamond Eye - Stanadyne FFM filter, screen, and gauge port - Walbro LP and bypass kit - Pre-LP filter...

6.5 newbie with what appears to be a blown turbo- what say you?

Ok- how can I bypass the OPS (oil pressure switch?)? Should I for good? Please tell me more about this CDR valve. I can't find much about it. Thanks! P.s. I'm ordering parts no later than tomorrow so I can get them expedited to my door for some Friday installs. I still haven't ruled out the...

6.5 newbie with what appears to be a blown turbo- what say you?

Ok, so would buying a new wastegate be an ideal next step? Would not relieving the back pressure (?) cause the symptoms I initially described/could the wastegate be the culprit? I can't seem to find any for my 1993, most are advertised for 1994+. None for the GM-3. Any recommendations? The FFM...

6.5 newbie with what appears to be a blown turbo- what say you?

Ok thanks, guys. I'll take another look at the wastegate and see if I can disconnect to move it. It does appear to be in the rear/open position with the truck off. I'll try and get the truck started today as well and see if that changes to front/closed. I'll find a new fuel filter as well...

6.5 newbie with what appears to be a blown turbo- what say you?

Well I haven't had time to go through the checklist yet (especially as I found my 7-way plug for the camper drained both batteries, so out that went), but here's what I did find in the hour I had today. The inlet side of the turbo has zero play and spins just fine with little resistance-...

6.5 newbie with what appears to be a blown turbo- what say you?

Thanks, guy- that's what I'm starting to find out. Will I lose any low end with the ATT vs. a GM-8? If the difference between the most ideal snail for my rig is a couple hundred or less, I'll get the better one if it comes down to the turbo. Plus exhaust. It's an auto! And I'm actually trying...

Ok thanks, neighbor- I'm in DFW. And also looking at this thread! Same issue, points to fuel system as well... http://www.thetruckstop.us/forum/showthread.php?40794-1993-6-5-turbo-losing-power-and-stalling-out

6.5 newbie with what appears to be a blown turbo- what say you?

I'll certainly check the wastegate, ak. Jeff, thanks- I have gotten a couple of tanks of diesel through, but is there still a way for air to remain in the system? I don't recall much pressure of fuel through the t-fitting when tested so now I'm wondering if it's indeed the lift pump and/or...

6.5 newbie with what appears to be a blown turbo- what say you?

You guys are as awesome as I'd hoped, I don't care what they say about you! Alright, sounds like I need to go check some things this weekend and update back. I appreciate the confirmations on not having the PMD or vacuum system, that helps. Gimme a day or two and I'll let you know. Leroy, that...
