The TerraShuttle is getting a military Optimizer! Now what?

Ah, Right Stuff, ok thanks. Do the valve covers need to come off to get at the precups? They're hopefully popping them out today, and also said they don't have the tool for the cam bearings and would to ship that off to a machine shop. Shop says the motor looks "brand spanking new". I'm almost...

The TerraShuttle is getting a military Optimizer! Now what?

I think I'm definitely doing the ARP studs, still thinking about the gapless rings. Where should I pick up the cam bearings from? New timing chain and rocker buttons also not a bad idea, but where from on these as well? Going to also add valve cover gaskets and probably the oil pump and some fan...

The TerraShuttle is getting a military Optimizer! Now what?

Good tips. I wasn't able to get my list together last night but will this weekend. I'll ping back here to roundtable as that comes together and will call the shop on Monday to try and get a plan together.

The TerraShuttle is getting a military Optimizer! Now what?

Lots of good thoughts, more are welcome. I'm taking notes and am going to do some further searching on here tonight. The main concern with all these details is, wonderful, but how am I going to get my mechanic at the shop here locally to be sure of all of this? Or would he even follow such...

The TerraShuttle is getting a military Optimizer! Now what?

Thanks- I forgot to note it had the Dmax fan already, but I've been unsure about the clutch on it. The previous owner dragged the truck through SSDiesel at one point, where the DB2 was rebuilt at some point recently TMK. Glad to hear on the studs, and good idea on the injector cleaning. There...

The TerraShuttle is getting a military Optimizer! Now what?

Hey guys, long time no chat. I think my last thread on here was late last year, lamenting that my truck sounded like it had thrown a rod, and replacing the crank pulley didn't help much. I pretty much went into hibernation for the winter to plan. Then I sold our house in the suburbs, moved my...

The ATT is on! And I blew an injector on the way home? OR, My weekend with Leroy :)

Thanks, Jay. Not a bad thought, but I only have to stash it for a couple hours down the alley. If I get the pulley on in time. My house is completely upended at the moment, though I got a bit of a reprieve on the listing photos until Wednesday. And good weather has returned!

Also- can someone still please confirm the torque specs on the pulley bolts? I probably need to get that back on this weekend. Gotta move this beast for house listing photos... "Oh lovely, cypress trees, a gurgling fountain, new patio, shrubberies, large driveway... AND A ZOMBIE APOCOLYPSE TRUCK!"

The ATT is on! And I blew an injector on the way home? OR, My weekend with Leroy :)

Quick update- I phoned Leroy today and told him I needed to reschedule the visit. I just got under contract on a property this week and am finally getting some acreage. We close late February, and I now have a home to sell beforehand! Shouldn't be a problem in the market we have here currently...

The ATT is on! And I blew an injector on the way home? OR, My weekend with Leroy :)

Yeah yeah on you eskimos... :) I love being out in the cold weather, but not when I'm lying fairly still on the frozen concrete in it! Forget that. It's gotta be at least in the 40s. If I'm working and moving about, reasonable subzero temps are fine. Good point- I wasn't stranded when my...

The ATT is on! And I blew an injector on the way home? OR, My weekend with Leroy :)

Dagnabbit! Hey, what are the torque specs on the crank pulley bolts again? It's below freezing this weekend, not sure I'm going to get this on until perhaps Friday morning when it's back in the 50s (and I'm taking the day off). Also, if anyone has a new or highly dependable and serviceable...

Well I figured out how to resolve this. In the interest of experience, fear, progress, and time once again, I'm going to just pay a man to help do it for me... Guess who? On the weekend after next? :) I'll get the replacement crank pulley put on beforehand, and have a brief respite on the home...

The ATT is on! And I blew an injector on the way home? OR, My weekend with Leroy :)

Thanks. No impact wrench here, so I'll be relying on the feats of manual torque and bravery. Hopefully I can do this from below as it seems, as I'd rather not strip the fan and bits out. Seems like a better/shorter angle anyway. That is, if I can get that length of breaker bar underneath to...

The ATT is on! And I blew an injector on the way home? OR, My weekend with Leroy :)

Hrmmm... I'll give it some more thought around the long Christmas holiday. I'll have to see if my pry bar is the right length, otherwise I can hopefully buy the right one. Yeah, my cheater bars were made from some small metal fence post I've hacked down to size (24"?) that I've used very well...

I won't lie... after reading all the HB threads on here and the carnage that can happen if this job isn't done properly (by someone who has never done this before), I may just slap the replacement AMG pulley on, delay any major trips, and plan to visit Leroy again in a couple months! Similar to...

The Fluid Damper is here! I'm hoping to get it on Saturday, but have a pretty tight schedule. It may be over the long Christmas holiday. Headed to Harbor Freight tomorrow. I also got the crank seal at the dealer, btw.

Interesting. Now I get it. Visuals are everything! Thanks, guys. I'll be picking up those tools at HB, and definitely using a cheater bar to get that kind of torque...

Would the oil need to be drained first? What's a good pry out tool? Haven't done this before.

Yeah, it's supposed to leak a little I suppose, and it does. Just my OCD streak coming out. The AMG take-off pulley arrived from Leroy today! So tempting to just go swap it in and crank the thing back up but will wait for the FD to arrive. Looks like early next week now.

WarWagon and Leroy- I'll check the bolts again before using them but I think it's just the camera. DieselCash- thanks, neighbor- I'll keep you in mind once I get to that step and may be in touch. I'm looking forward to the parts arriving and should have some time on Sunday to get them in. At...
