I ran this turbo on my rig for the past 4 years and it did everything I asked it to. I've only run the stock GM turbo and the current turbo being discussed, so I have nothing else to really compare it to but it is a massive upgrade over stock. I did swap it out this summer for the aforementioned...
Is the transmission a manual or auto? I've seen some folks on here pull the entire engine and trans out the front in one piece, can't speak to it myself though as I've only been around manual transmissions. It sounds like you may have an auto as I don't recall any top bolts on the bellhousing...
Although the 92-95 bellhousing has more moving parts and thus more to go wrong, I prefer the external slave to the internal design of the 96+. Not having to pull the trans to replace the slave is a big plus for me.
Thank you for the info on the 4050 @GM Guy, I didn't know there was a still in production alternative to the NV4500. Pretty neat that they're cheaper than a cryo- treated NV4500 rebuild too
I was vaguely interested in a ZF6 only because I don't know of any adapter that will mate the NV5600 to...
the '95 engine has 3/8" NPT ports in the block for the oil cooler lines. Later blocks use 1/2" NPT ports. So you'd want two 90* fittings going from 3/8" NPT to 1/2" or 5/8" JIC fittings.
For the oil cooler, ditch the original factory one with the weird ORB ports and get a new one with 1/2" NPT...
@alex1234 how do you remove the alternator pulley without distorting it? I've seen specific pulley pullers but don't want to buy a tool for 1 time use. I got my correct size pulley from a junkyard but had to break the donor alternator in the process, and would like to know if there is an easier...
Yup I know South Main Auto, 20 minutes from where I live. Eric is a great dude.
Not sure if was already covered, or if it would even be part of the current issue, but is there any chance the selector switches/ underdash wiring could be bad? Hopefully it's just a bad sensor and the problem will...
Yikes, looks like the DS4 IP was dismantled as well? Be sure to clean that as thoroughly as possible before re-assembling. And check in with us here before ordering a "new" one and getting ripped off by a place like Pensacola Diesel. Bad news is the DS4 was discontinued in 2020 and good running...
@alex1234 sorry I wasn't able to get you the shipping quote yet, are you no longer interested in the 62mm pulley? It seems to have the correct seat size between pulley and alternator housing. Sounds like you're moving in a different direction, but if you still want the pulley it's yours
No problem Alex. Are you able to measure the diameter of the shaft for your alternator? It is a tapered fit but if you can get me an approximate measurement I can compare it to the pulley I have to confirm fitment
@alex1234 send me a PM with your address and I'll get a shipping quote. I have a pulley here, bought it a few years ago when I thought I had the wrong size pulley on my alternator. Turns out my transmission had been rebuilt with frankentstein parts and that's why my speed to RPM didn't add up...
Get a GEP water pump from a reputable distributor if you want to be on the safe side of quality. Real4WD.com gets direct from GEP, I'll be sourcing my water pump through them for a future build. Their website isn't the easiest to navigate or up to date so just call and order directly
Do you have to run resistors when using LEDs in the front headlights? The LED tail light kit I purchased several years ago came with them, and I've heard mixed things about whether you can directly swap in an LED for a halogen with regards to headlights. Looks great, thanks for always going the...
I've used Optimum Black pretty much exclusively with no issues. Re- sealed my t- case several times with it, sealed my rear diff, sealed the PTO covers on the NV4500. I've seen others talk about using RTV silicone in re- sealing this case, so either is probably fine. Optimum black advertises...
I got my replacement oil pump here
https://www.transmissionpartsdistributors.com/np231-np233-np241-np242-np243-transfer-case-oil-pump-38-spline-4338936-16209/
at about 6:20 of this video you can see the oil pump on the output shaft and how the tabs on the oil pump are on the top surface of the...
