    Emmott's Initiation

My friend who does pipeline NDT knows a top notch weld shop in Nisku Alberta that serves the oil and gas and mining industry. The owner has done a fair amount of cast iron welding before and can do my block himself. He drills out the ends of the cracks to stop propagation and then welds with...

    Ceramic Motor Seal

Anyone try Irontite Ceramic Motor Seal before? Thoughts / experiences? http://irontite.com/ceramicmotorseal/ Reducing the roughness of a surface lowers the thermal conductivity of the surface because the area in contact with liquid is decreased. Imagine removing cooling fins from a...

    Is This a Good IP?

Asked Quadstar if they ever saw P suffix before, they said J and S are the only correct labels. Just emailed the seller a lengthy no thanks for multiple sketchy reasons. It might be ok but I won't take the risk for the asking price.

    Is This a Good IP?

I wrote out all of my concerns with the tag and sent supporting screenshots from Stanadyne bulletins. Response in short was: bought $2300 new, it sat 2 years in box, then got tested by diesel specialist for $300, it returned with great paperwork, then all paperwork and receipts were taken by a...

    Is This a Good IP?

I checked every stanadyne parts and service bulletin for GM / AMG and can't find anything indicating what the P at the end means. The s means rebuilt / serviced when preceding the specification number. There was a spec number "5521S", but no 5521P.

    Emmott's Initiation

Sorry I don't know what you mean by seat, do you mean the end of the existing main bolt hole? Can (should) you drill the holes for the main bolts / studs deeper than the stock? Say if I wanted to use a main stud 3" longer than the stock bolt (with 3" of extra thread too) and insert it 3"...

    Emmott's Initiation

Can you v-groove and muggy weld the length of the crack then install one loc-n-stitch pin at the end of where the crack was? I think doing that may further reduce the chance of the crack continuing since the end of the original fracture point is now a "dead end". Also, how deep can you tap all...

    Emmott's Initiation

I've ran a fluidampr since I bought the used rebuilt optimizer ~5 years ago. The seller said it had ~40K Km (25K miles) on the rebuild. It was in a parts truck and running great. I did not do a teardown / balance / rebuild, it went straight into my daily driver and lasted ~80K Km before a...

    Emmott's Initiation

Got a call from the machinist. Cracked #2 web, crack goes to the end of the bolt hole. That was on an optimizer 6500 with DSG girdle. Options I see are: Get all main studs and 5-web girdle, reuse the same block Run as-is with the 3-web DSG girdle and bolts I already have New bare block -...

    It Followed Me Home...

Picked this up last week from Houston, TX: Let me know if you see any red flags. This motor looks like it was slightly used and got a touch up coat of paint. I paid a used price for it. The seller said they acquired it when buying out another company and it came along with an...

Crate Motor Inspection - North of Houston

I am still looking for someone to go inspect, but they don't have the crate at their shop yet. They got it from another company they bought out and not all of the inventory has been moved over yet. Was hoping someone could visit during business hours closer to the end of the month
