I just called Napa about the steering gear and they are sending me another unit.I’ll try it one last time and see if it’s any better with another exchange reman. It’s lifetime warranty so good thing I held onto the receipt.
On another note I have another 96 Chevy truck I’m currently doing some work on that I bought some 13 yrs ago.Has about 280K on it with a 6.5 goodwrench van engine and the steering gear on that truck is just like new.Responds immediately when the steering wheel is turned.
I also think some of those newer steering gears have a 3 or 4 groove option where the pitman arm goes.At least that’s what the options are when selecting a pitman arm for those newer chevys.
I have the receipt and so forth if I want to exchange it,etc but it’s just too much of a hassle messing around with it in obtaining another one and it probably will still be no better.
I bought a reman steering gear from Napa last winter for my 96 gmc but wish I hadn’t.Quite a bit of steering wheel movement before the truck actually goes in the direction you want it.The pitman arm was replaced but it was a poor unit right out of the box.I’m pretty sure my original steering...
I’ve moved my harness to the top passenger side area of the intake manifold.I bought a couple new harnesses from glagulator who does a fantastic job with those.
Leroy diesel sells a kit that has a bellhousing adapter plate that goes between the engine and transmission with custom starter if you really want the problem resolved.Probably isn’t cheap but looks like a great product that’s been developed.
Hey Marty.I haven’t purchased any pumps as of yet.My current pump from badger purchased in 2014 works perfectly. It’s probably good advice from warwagon. If I did buy a spare pump it would probably be useless if I left it not being used for a year or two.
Thanks for the reply guys.Napa was the place locally that can get the diesel select brand pump with the 3yr coverage so if there is a problem they will take care of it with no questions asked.I’ve been dealing with the same store the past 25yrs and they are good to deal with. It’s just $700-$800...
Thanks for the reply.I’d prefer acdelco as well. It’s also much cheaper than what the diesel select pump is.Locally they want $1500 plus tax on top of it but comes with the 3 yr but I’ve always trusted acdelco more so than anything else.
