What did you do with your GMT400 today...or yesterday....

More progress... transmission cooler lines and thermal bypass installed, 2.5" crossover installed, U joint steering shaft installed, stock battery cables removed, AC delete pulley installed.

What did you do with your GMT400 today...or yesterday....

Got the IP mounting nuts tightened back up. Found 2 of the nuts loose and one missing while looking for the crank sensor plug the other day. Pulled the lower intake and luckily found the missing nut in the valley. Got it back on the stud with 18" of extensions from behind the IP and a magnet...

What did you do with your GMT400 today...or yesterday....

I have a pretty good system down. I wrap the hose with a tight single layer of electrical tape then tighten a zip tie next to where I want to cut the hose. That holds the steel fibers pretty well and keeps them from fraying after being cut. I make sure to wear some gloves too to keep from...

What did you do with your GMT400 today...or yesterday....

I used one of those fancy flare nut wrenches to remove the stock transmission fluid cooler lines and adapters from the 4L80E to make way for the new custom stainless braided cooler lines. Since I'm losing the internal radiator cooler, I'm upgrading the external cooler to a larger unit with an...

I believe in the latest video he discusses how the higher flow injectors move the combustion event and peak cylinder pressure a few degrees later in the crank rotation. The piston is further away from max position and moving down, maximizing the downward force of the combustion event.

    99 Suburban 6.5 to 5.9 Cummins Swap

Well done. If these LED housings don't work out, I think I'm going to cut out the inner bulb entirely, cap it off to keep water out, and run just one marker bulb.

    99 Suburban 6.5 to 5.9 Cummins Swap

Do you have some pics of your marker light mods? I bought a set of the LED ones thinking they were thinner than the stock housings, but it may not be enough.

Ah yes, the exhaust back pressure, or drive pressure. Hes taking things to extremes with GM/Izuzu's latest and greatest, but I think the principle is still true for all turbocharged applications. In a 6.5L, its seen at a much lower place because the stock turbo is so bad. We can change the turbo...

I think it's a function of rail pressure and injection time?

    HE351VE with functional VGT on 1997 6.5L

@WarWagon I'm not a fan of the bright white or blue headlights either. 5 or 6K would be the lightest I would go, but a projector retrofit does interest me. I just need to find some solid lenses to pull the trigger on.

Have a link or part number for housings?

    HE351VE with functional VGT on 1997 6.5L

Ah shucks... that won't work then. I'm better off moving forward with modifying the stock adjuster brackets.

    HE351VE with functional VGT on 1997 6.5L

Looking at aftermarket headlights because my stock housing are pretty cloudy anyway... The mounting/adjuster brackets on these Anzos looks much smaller and the horizontal adjustment looks to be a plastic foot on the end of the screw.

    99 Suburban 6.5 to 5.9 Cummins Swap

I didn't see the end, but that was all I saw when I tried to see who won. Glad he got out of the hospital under his own power today. I have a pretty good aluminum fabricator I could take the IC to for mods, but I will try the modifying the adjuster brackets first.

    99 Suburban 6.5 to 5.9 Cummins Swap

If it's good enough for NASCAR, it's good enough for me!

    99 Suburban 6.5 to 5.9 Cummins Swap

I'll get a pic of the carnage and post it on my thread. I basically hacked off the inward portion of the adjuster bracket with the horizontal adjuster and the adjuster attachment point on the headlight housing. It fits with the intercooler, but will flop around if I dont attach it somewhere.

    99 Suburban 6.5 to 5.9 Cummins Swap

Ahhhhhh I know what you mean, I had that thought real quick before I cut the adjuster. I think I can make it work, just need to figure out how to fix the light from moving.

    99 Suburban 6.5 to 5.9 Cummins Swap

What did you do for headlight clearance around the intercooler? I trimmed the adjuster on the driver side light, but now there is nothing to keep it from moving horizontally. Probably should have researched it more before breaking out the body saw. I can JB Weld something in to fix it in place I...

    HE351VE with functional VGT on 1997 6.5L

Still making progress... The intercooler and radiators are mounted. Next problem is the headlight adjusters, they aren't going to fit. What did you guys do to get them to fit besides trimming them down?

GMx turbo upgrades for towing heavy, worth it?

John from Quadstar has a Banks iDash with a whole grip of sensors for it. I'm sure we will be seeing a bunch of this data in the near future
