    Port matching

Hey yall, Thanks to @WarWagon, I have new heads ready to go on in place of my more than likely warped original heads. Mahle gaskets and ARP studs will accompany them. While I have it all blown apart (no pun intended), would it be worth taking some extra time and doing some port matching on the...

I'll be getting one of these, and head studs.

Ordered gaskets. The sale for my other project truck fell through so trying to figure out budget for heads. What is the part number of the Flowkooler pump for the bolt-on fan clutch?

I'm seeing info that Victor Reinz and Mahle are the same gaskets. I know Quadstar was selling Mahle gaskets, but are having order fulfillment issues so he dropped them as a supplier.

Fel Pro or Mahle seem to be the go to. What about Victor Reinz?

I'll steer clear of them then. I just want something that will hold together under unrestricted boost.

    HE351VE with functional VGT on 1997 6.5L

Sorry guys, borrowed my father in law's 97 F250 to make the camping trip so I've been out of cell range for a few days. I'm going to be tearing it down to see what is going on. I want to do Cometic MLS head gaskets, but the required surface finish for a good seal has me worried. Optimizer heads...

    HE351VE with functional VGT on 1997 6.5L

I added ports to the Cummins radiator for a steam vent and the heater core return, to be as close as possible to the original GM cooling system. The steam vent seeps a little coolant but some high temp RTV sealed it.

I guess there was a reason it was replace in the first place right? I took a vacuum to it before installing to get as much of the gunk out of the fins as I could, but maybe I should have used water and a cleaner as well. I hated the idea of hacking up and modifying a brand new one, but now that...

    HE351VE with functional VGT on 1997 6.5L

Well, it was probably going to happen sooner or later... I didn't think anything was hurt after my last towing experience, but this morning while driving the truck to work it was spewing coolant out of the cummins radiator over flow. When I noticed it, I checked the upper hose and it was rock...

Best bang for buck 6.5 cooling upgrades

Im going to try some Water Wetter myself. As well as look at alignment of the radiator to the intercooler and sealing the fan shroud to the radiator better.

Ill be changing out the pump sooner rather than later now that this is happening. I remember you recommending Flowkooler pumps in the past and plan to use one.

    HE351VE with functional VGT on 1997 6.5L

I agree with a cooling stack problem. I don't think air is getting to the radiator through the oil cooler, trans cooler, and intercooler very well, or the radiator is junk. Water pump is the stock 1997 bolt on clutch type but I have upgraded the fan clutch and fan. The radiator was used and I...

    HE351VE with functional VGT on 1997 6.5L

Haven't updated in a while... Towed my 7500 lb travel trailer for the first time after the intercooler install. IAT maxed out at 135 degrees and EGT never went above 900 degrees. Although, I created more issues. Climbing a long, steep mountain grade coolant temp peaked at 240 and transmission...

    HE351VE with functional VGT on 1997 6.5L

EGTs are way down as well. I took it on the interstate for the first time today. It cruised along at 80 mph at 7 psi of boost, 1:1 drive ratio, 75 degree IAT, and 600 degree EGT. Going down the highway at 55 mph, it sits at 3 psi of boost, same IAT, and 400 degree EGT. I need to retime my IP...

Very true. I was pushing 200 degree air at 25 psi. Now I'm pushing 80 degree air at 18 psi.

    HE351VE with functional VGT on 1997 6.5L

A lot has happened since last update... The intercooler install and all supporting mods are done. Been back on the for a few days trying to dial things back in. Max boost is only getting to about 18 psi, but IATs are about 10 degrees above ambient when cruising along, 20 or so degrees above...
