There is nothing that can be done about the GM-X turbos impact on drive pressure. The turbine housing geometry is fixed, and shoving more boost pressure in the intake side only compounds the issue.
I have drank the CAC kool aid, I am a firm beliver that a CAC will help a forced induction application in longevity and performance in all situations. The question becomes is it viable/possible/cost effective? There are applications where some form of CAC simply aren't worth the undertaking to...
If I was looking at an engine teardown and rebuild in the near future, I would be seriously interested in a set of the modified pistons. I either need to put more miles on the truck, or turn up the boost and help it along lol.
I was wondering if the rocker would work on a stock application, or...
Valve reliefs would make clearances a non-issue. Hypothetically, without additional reinforcement, thicker head gaskets could create a higher chance of blowing out as well. Without that, lower compression pistons with valve reliefs is probably the more sound option.
My understanding is that generally, every 0.010" over stock thickness will reduce compression ratio by one point. I could have that misrepresented, but this would mean that +0.020" head gaskets should yield an 18:1 compression ratio with only removing and replacing the cylinder heads.
Given that there is no performance camshaft options for 6.2/6.5L engines, another avenue to increase air flow in to and out of the cylinder by increasing valve lift and lengthening valve openness is a higher ratio rocker arm. Has anyone ran the Harland Sharp 1.6 ratio rocker arms and what...
I think the Duramax series, as well as the monster truck engine series, are full of basic diesel performance knowledge. Sure they are using the most current Duramax platform for product development, testing and display but the same principles apply to all diesel engines. Turbo efficiency...
I can't believe he shares as much of his knowledge and research in YouTube videos, but its pretty compelling to see, not just hear someone say, but see how his products blow everyone else out of the water.
I could probably make the current battery locations work with just the intercooler, but I want that real estate right behind the core support on the passenger side for a CAI as well, and I'm sure I can make use of the battery location on the driver side as well.
Oh I just remembered, I have to...
Since it's snowing outside and I'm not that motivated to go out and work on anything, I'll summarize what I have done and what still needs to be done to make the 2nd gen (1994-2002) cummins radiator and intercooler fit in the 1997 K3500 core support:
1. Cutting out sections of the core support...
Ok, I admit, you were right. With more substantial fab skills, I probably could have made the stock radiator work. It has been amazing how well they fit in the Chevy core support.
I started trimming and fitting for the Cummins radiator today, it's mostly in. It is slightly wider than the stock radiator, but still fits without major cutting. The intercooler inlet won't be a problem at all now. Need to drill holes in the bottom of the core support for the bottom rubber...
I came across a 5.9L radiator today for $40. Cheap enough not to pass up and see how it fits. If it works, I'll just have to replumb the transmission cooler to remove the stock radiator cooler from the circuit and figure out what to do with the coolant hoses.
Even with the inlet/outlet down low, I may still need to trim some off of the headlight adjuster brackets. By angling the inlet up, the radiator relief will give enough room to where lower radiator hose should fit. Trimming an inch or so from the end of the radiator hose as well should tuck the...
There would be a lot of room if I turned the CAC upside down, but then it will interfere with the headlights. I purchased LED marker lights to try to help them clear the CAC down low because they seem to be thinner than the stock housings, but I think I will still need to trim them a little bit.
I just hit some of the spots around the CAC with some black paint to cover them up. Maybe I'll strip it and cover it like you did, get some more efficiency and life out of it.
In theory, angling the inlet up should help with inner fender clearance as well, so maybe I will modify both sides so I...
Yes you did mention you used the 2nd gen radiator with your intercooler, but I want to use the stock radiator. There are two coolant ports on my radiator not on the cummins one, and the transmission cooler, and I'm not sure how much the cooling system would like having two caps.
