Rig looks nice! :)
Just a couple thoughts from the gallery.
If the Caddy still has its AFM active, look for a way to disable. Simply cannot see how AFM causing the engine to consume extra oil as it ages is a good thing for the engine or environment...
I ran with the Heath version which mounted to a plate, and the plate attached to the front skid-plate like Paveltoz's. This configuration should have gotten plenty of airflow. It lasted a few years, but slowly went bad over the course of about 6 months. Replaced it with a unit from Leroy...
Burb never had the hood insulation the as it was long gone by the time I bought the truck. Never noticed any issues with the hood due to lack of insulation.
IIRC, I got both versions from LMC. Did not have the courage to try the better one with the plastic holder. Turbo can give off ~1200*F at WOT when pulling long and hard, and with the plastic rated for about 900*F lower than that, did not feel like playing around. I also had a heat sheild on the...
Good luck.
I tried one of the generic glue-on products. Directions required thorough clean and removal of the hood. Cleaned the hood while still on the Burb. Went to test fit the insulation pad (one piece for the whole hood) before I committed by enlisting helpers to remove / reinstall the hood...
Completely agree that the trailer's safety chains need to criss-cross. But that is not the focus for securing the load.
Am talking about the tie-down straps (the ones from either the wheel or suspension to the trailer) which hold the load (in this case, the vehicle).
Here is an example of the...
Am with AK. Appropriately rated trailer with brakes. If the trailer needs new tires, take a look at LT as ST does not have all that good a reputation.
Yes, dingy towing is possible, but as Will mentions, can get complex to do it right.
If this is for the truck in Texas, don't forget some sort...
If in an absolute pinch where nobody buys the truck and the move date is a couple days away, at least consider donating it to a local charity so that some good comes from the deal.
Oops, my bad on two fronts. Apologies.
IS series is Cummins, not Detroit.
Meant ISC. 8.3L Cummins. It's a beast in the motorcoach community.
ISL is current generation.
For the HEUI engine, just thought of another fun fact. It is impossible to destroy these engines from lack of oil. Once...
I'd go for the Detroit ISL series. Agree that it might prove tough to stuff in the bay due to weight. And then there is size.
For 6.0's injectors, HEUIs can live a long life. But oil quality is critical as they use the engine's crankcase oil to inject fuel. This also explains why the 6.0's sump...
The PS 6.0 is definitely a lot less noisy than a 6.5. Comes with more gears in the tranny as well.
Given it has survived this long, either the owner got the gospel and bullet-proofed it, or it is one of the lucky ones that dodged the bullet. If there are no signs of bullet-proofing, I'd do it...
Just goes to amplify that 'boost junkies' are full of hot air. Power comes from cooler air and lower psi. I always get a good laugh out of somebody throwing ~20 psi into their 6.5 when I got the same dyno numbers with 12 - 14 and *no* intercooler.
For the video, it reinforces that there is no...
Interestingly, keeping a hitch in the receiver can have the opposite effect of intent. Got-it that there are some situations where the front vehicle and occupants come out Ok from a rear collision, but this is a gamble.
Completely understand the intent is to punish the tailgater and protect the...
For the filter, Yes, a real filter. Not one of those tablet holder thingeys to keep SCA in balance (instead of testing the actual levels).
Run coolant filters in my current rigs as the casting is known to leave a good bit of sand in the block, which manages to get lose over time, and eat the...
Apologies for coming in late.
Back to the anode. Agree that it has benefits, although do not see it as a shield in this application. If going this route, I would consider installing a coolant filter and make sure to check the anode as part of regular maintenance.
Sure, the anode will make...
FWIW, after the P400 install, my slushbox ran commando until I did the manual conversion. Girdle on the new engine was incompatible with the cover and I was too lazy to grind the cover to fit.
Might have gone the extra effort if the Burb saw any notable offroad, but it was mostly a highway Queen.
Or go the easy route with an Alaskan camper. New are a bit pricey. But they started business in the 50s, so pre-owned should not be too hard to find.
Then again, going with a soft side pop-up does not look so bad:
Seeing as the topic of filtration came up.
If the Burb has 4WD and still has the filter in its OE location, definitely get a remote filter kit. Am not sure what mind altering substance the GM engineers did the day they finalized that design. Nastiest and worst oil changes I ever experienced...
