Cannot tell which series of Ferd this is. If it had the 6.4, that engine is a time-bomb and works great until it doesn't. Some of the 6.7's suffer from the CP4 grenade and owners simply do not want to drop the $$$$ to prevent $$$$$ in repairs when it blows.
More common path is one of the inline...
Apologies as I though that the conversation was around the 3.0 in a Suburban and not the 3.0 in general.
Good to know (and not really surprised) that the diesel was un-leashed in the truck's frame.
But from what I am seeing via the Internet...
Was the GVWR increased past 14K#? Tried to look up the spec and it seems that GM is hiding this number.
Did manage to find 2024 towing capacities. The 5.3L gasser was rated to tow more than the diesel. Ouch!
The exhaust note was definitely under control. The engine itself is among the loudest I have heard. Especially with a cold engine when the timing advanced. Although, an older IDI Cummins definitely wins in the noise category.
In fairness, I could get the engine noise under control: rotate the...
Arguably a good move. While folks are able to keep their 6.5L rigs on the road, parts are getting scarce. If not already unobtanium.
If the Burb was actually a 3/4 ton spec, there is no current production SUV that will touch its real capability and road manner confidence while loaded. Several...
Perhaps the friend is mixing the ZF-5 in Fords with the NV 5 speed.
As noted, only differences with the NV are between years and how the hydraulics work. No differences for engines or gearing.
Ford used different gears in the ZF depending on the engine's fuel type. IIRC, the gear spread was...
Nice :)
Although, I'd rather have access to live cams at a Guns & Roses concert. Lets just say that the term "drop top" was encouraged by the organizers and there were plenty of participants willing to get with the program in order to appear on the big screens.
While thinking of it, might look into whether it is worth cryo treating the front rotors on the '16. I do this on my older Ferds to prevent warp.
Do not recommend the slotted or drilled rotors as this reduces the amount of braking force. Been there, not doing it again.
IIRC, only real difference from a 3/4 ton to a 1 ton was is in the rear as 1 tons could get dually, and the 1 tons had the stronger springs. But there are also (or, were) 1 tons with singles. And there were 3/4 tons with springs which actually put them in the 1 ton class.
Just checked on Tasca...
If loosening the fuel cap works, then time for a new cap.
If not, any other restriction points such as inline filters? Crimped hard supply line? Imploded soft supply line?
Can try the trick of forcing air back into the tank to see if it was a simple clog. Make sure to loosen the tank cap...
Is the voltage 12.8 when the glow plugs are supposedly 'On'? If so, this seems like they are actually offline and I'd expect ~8 - 10v when the glow plugs are active and healthy.
Do not recall the DS4 6.5 doing a "race up and fall back to idle" behavior. My other computer controlled diesels...
I am a bit lost here in terms of what is going on.
Narrative indicates that the only major thing is the tranny. Except, the invoices show that the powertain is (or, was) also a mess. What is the current status here? Not sure I would have fixed a locked-up turbo, but rather go with a new unit...
This is another area where 5'ers and TTs differ. 5'ers usually allow for more insulation space in the overhead which makes them better candidates for 4 season camping. Walls on both the TT and 5'er are usually about the same when it comes to insulation space.
In the TT, there are only a few...
The cut-off is 2006 - 2008 (the .com bust). After this, corporate raiders bought-up a bunch of the surviving manufacturers and let the bean counters take over.
I happened to meet somebody who wrote and consulted on new electrical code / standards, showed a picture of a 2017 Class A...
Related, if wanting to take a long break and park the TT / 5-er for a while (say, during the next pandemic for example), there is no worry about whether it will start or the fuel has gone bad.
Yes, a few years ago. It was a pain. I did figure out how to navigate the quirkiness.
Once I found the part number, I walked into the local Delco store.
If you want to really take a deep dive and DIY, there are instructions floating around on how to make a Raspbery Pi carputer. This is not as hard as it seems as people have already created the modified OS. This is on my wish list, but my time keeps getting sucked into something else (Honey...
