    1987 6.2 diesel rebuild

I had a little look at the invoice last night when I received everything on the pallet and it appears the crank was machined to accept .010” rod and main bearings so that’s pretty acceptable.Pictures to be uploaded soon.

    1987 6.2 diesel rebuild

Morning guys, The block, crank and rods arrived last evening along with some 5.7 diesel parts on a pallet strapped down so I’ll upload pictures in a couple days when I get it mounted on the stand, etc.

    1987 6.2 diesel rebuild

Your definitely right Will. The oil will stay cleaner for sure.I have a huge amount of money spent on both engines and I’m sure a lot of you guys are in the same boat as myself. For what it costs I know your right and once it’s assembled there’s no turning back after that.

    1987 6.2 diesel rebuild

I was going to send the rings off to total seal to have them machined but just figured what I have is good enough I suppose.I actually have two .030 ring sets for the olds since each ring set was found at a pretty good price so I bought both brands.I did mention sealed power in my last post but...

    1987 6.2 diesel rebuild

I’m just using the sealed power piston rings.I’ve used gapless before on my 5.7 diesel with pretty good results.I’m just sticking with a sealed power conventional set on both of my engines. Thanks though for mentioning it.

Hey guys.Pictures should be available in another few days.I’m having a courier van pick up my block, crank etc on Thursday.

    1987 6.2 diesel rebuild

Yesterday the machinist called to say the 6.2 bearings arrived so now it’s ready for pickup at the shop. They also installed the new sealed power bushings and arp rod bolts in my 5.7 diesel connecting rods. The big end of the rods were slightly out of round so they lightly honed them to bring them...

    1987 6.2 diesel rebuild

I could have probably found something a little cheaper but I just decided to get the clevite product anyway. Nothing worse when someone has hatred against you.I’ve had a few people that’ve shown their true colours towards me.People like that I just stay away from nowadays.

    Tight/Taunt GP Wires

They are much longer on the passenger side and have braided material over every wire. It’s a much better harness over the original.

    1987 6.2 diesel rebuild

This morning I purchased a set of clevite rod bolt sleeves to protect the crankshaft journals on reassembly.Total cost was $20 from Amazon.

    Tight/Taunt GP Wires

I never did like the way the factory wiring was routed on the passenger side for those glow plugs. The aftermarket harnesses are definitely much, much better in many ways.

What did you do with your GMT400 today...or yesterday....

I picked up a set of stock turn signal lenses/housings for my 96 gmc truck from rockauto. The current lenses are aftermarket with a lot of moisture trapped inside.Maybe today I’ll get a chance to put those on.

    1987 6.2 diesel rebuild

When I started dismantling the engine for the rebuild I didn’t see any scoring on the journals when I removed the crankshaft. It looked pretty decent for the amount of miles put upon it.Maybe the journals were tapered or out of round slightly. I should be able to pick up the castings soon from...

    1987 6.2 diesel rebuild

Your definitely right about GM taking the cheap way out. That was always their way of doing things. Even the rocker arm setup was made cheaper in 1985.I always liked the older 82-84 rocker setup.

    1987 6.2 diesel rebuild

Here are some pictures of how it looked before I sent it off to the shop a few weeks back. Also are pictures of some parts I plan to use within it with some decals I had made to install upon the valve covers once it’s all painted and assembled.More pictures and details on the way when I pick up...

    1987 6.2 diesel rebuild

That’s good to hear indeed.I didn’t ask the machinist what size bearings it’s going to use but maybe .13mm perhaps?I also heard of .26mm as well but I’ll post the info when I find out.

    1987 6.2 diesel rebuild

Hey guys.I mentioned this in the 6.5 section but just figured I’d put this build info in the right place.Basically I have a 87 6.2 diesel with about 400,000KM on it that I decided to rebuild recently and have as a spare engine.I ran this engine for a few years in my 96 Chevy K1500 and I have to...

What did you do with your GMT400 today...or yesterday....

It’s a good thing it didn’t let go with the hood up if you were doing a visual inspection of the belt or pulleys with it running.Wow.
