    Steering free play

I had to get a second reman steering box from Napa before I was satisfied with it on my 96 gmc.The 1st box from Napa was terrible. But the 2nd was much better.I was told cardone does the reman process for Napa. It’s just a pain in the butt having to get the darn box off to put another replacement on.

    New 6.5

The acdelco crank sensor will be fine if you can locate one otherwise I’d recommend the NTK brand that rockauto sells.

What did you do with your GMT400 today...or yesterday....

I once had a 02 Jetta with a ALH.The engine was built like an army tank.It could take anything thrown at it👍 Much better and simpler than the BRM.

Here’s the kind I have on my truck now but it’s a pretty big filter. And in the next picture showing the R12T with the wrench is what I used to have on my Passat and Benz Bluetec.I hope this helps.EBay is where you’ll find both of these.

What did you do with your GMT400 today...or yesterday....

Not a problem.I can post a eBay link to where I got mine.I had a secondary filter on my 13 Passat and 08 Benz Bluetec diesel but they constantly leaked because of too much fuel pressure so I just put things back to normal.

What did you do with your GMT400 today...or yesterday....

Thank you Will.I appreciate that. It’s on a primer bulb body that I bought from eBay maybe 2 yrs ago.I ran into trouble with the factory racor housing a couple days ago as the housing was eaten away by corrosion near the primer knob so I had to condemn that housing altogether as air would...

What did you do with your GMT400 today...or yesterday....

I spent some time yesterday changing the primary and secondary fuel filters on my 96 gmc with the 6.2.I always liked the 2 filter setup. At least with a good lift pump and dual filtration the DS4 should live a long time.I condemned the old FM100 years ago and went with this setup instead. I made...

What did you do with your GMT400 today...or yesterday....

Didn’t do much with my 96 gmc with the 6.2 660 engine today but did use some mothers leather conditioner on the seats and applied some Napa protectant on the dash and door panels. Tomorrow I plan to change the fuel filters as I have both a primary and secondary setup.I also have a fuel pressure...

    Rebuild about done

By looking at it closely it appears the dots are aligned in that picture but still could be mis-stamped.

Your right about the glow plugs as well. Those weren’t in great shape either. The guy had aftermarket China injectors in it with gold numbering on the bodies.Definitely wasn’t Bosch or Delphi so he bought a set of new Bosch India turbo injectors from me which worked out well for him...

    Rebuild about done

To be honest it sounded okay and the engine was pretty steady when looking at it under the hood but when I stood back a second and observed those lines it definitely didn’t look right. It also had two misfire codes for 2 and 4 and the minute I reversed the lines it performed even better but...

    Rebuild about done

I also came across one 6.5 several years ago with injector lines 2 and 4 crossed over on the injector end. Some guy had the two lines in the wrong place. The injector tips on those two cylinders were practically melted away.It was unbelievable.

    Rebuild about done

One should always be careful of running an engine with pump timing off by a tooth, etc.I’ve personally seen cylinder heads with melted or deformed precups because of this.I wouldn’t run that engine again until the dots/marks are verified to be right.

Talk about bad luck if it’s one of those incorrectly stamped gear sets.

    Rebuild about done

I didn’t know there were issues with the gear drive setup.Guess we learn something new everyday……If you remove the timing cover and gear drive lay the cam gear on top of an old cam sprocket if you still have it and with the keyway notches inline with each other observe where the two dots are in...

    New 6.5

Nice job on how you anchored the engine on all four corners before you pulled it out. That’s how it should be done👍

    Rocker Arm/Valve Covers, Brands ?

On the K series truck when removing the oil pan all I ever did is remove a couple of the bolts that holds the front differential to the frame and let it drop down a few inches and that gave me the room to R&R the oil pan.

What did you do with your GMT400 today...or yesterday....

Napa in my area is good I have to say. It’s just a pain in the rear having to swap steering boxes in trying to find a better one. There’s really no way to know if it’s any good until it’s all bolted up.I just didn’t like the excess steering wheel movement before the truck actually wanted to turn...
