Thanks for the tips @Will L.!
I was flushing with the garden hose, just rinsed it a couple times with distilled to get the rest of the tap water out of the system before adding my coolant.
Unfortunately I was somewhat limited by the weather being cold so I had to do it in the shop and, not...
You have my permission 🤣🤣
Actually though we could talk about the best way to remove the rest of the sludge in that cooling system, I flushed it all day yesterday and still came out kinda orange, think it’s a DexCool issue...
I’ve given up on it for now as I need to get it out of the shop but...
Didn’t do anything on my 6.5, but I’ve been finishing up the intake manifold gasket job I started on my dad’s ‘96 Vortec, and I spent pretty much the whole weekend flushing the cooling system. (some of you maybe saw that other thread lol) I flushed and refilled that thing more times than I can...
Ok false alarm, *facepalm* went back and checked my battery connections AGAIN and turns out the ecm cable was getting a flakey connection, all fixed now. Weird that it only started acting up now but whatever, its working again!
Just finished up the intake manifold gasket replacement, and I’m flushing the cooling system now. Filling it up, starting the truck, revving it a bit, then drain water and repeat. Accidentally revved to redline and dash lights flickered and she died, now all I get are flickering lights when I...
Old feller I talked to on the weekend told me about one that was 2000’ deep before they found water. Can’t remember where he said it was. Could be his “oldtimers” skewed the numbers a bit too but who knows 🤷🏽♂️ 🤣
Reading the first post, sounds like the 93 was the other truck that was overheating, which also sounds like it was a gas engine, that truck is on the back burner.
The 6.5 is a ‘94
Technically there’s at least four common types of locking nuts that I know of. NyLock, Flange-Lock, “Cone” Lock (the ones that are pinched slightly on two or three sides), and then the ones you mentioned with the little rectangular dent, which seem to be a variation of the cone lock, but the...
Ok so I have a new oil pressure sensor now, that all looks good. However, on the mechanical gauge, it seems we are not actually getting 40psi at idle like I originally thought. It turns out, at WARM idle I’m only getting 25-30 psi... And sometimes it’s steady and sometimes the needle was gently...
Well I got my bracket built today. If I’d had a longer hose (😜) and/or a different T with all female ports I could have mounted the gauge upright so it would be more easily readable, but this will work I guess. And it works well for a ground for the sensor too
Ok so it turns out the grease gun hose does not work well as a conductor 😆
But I think I will just build a little bracket to mount the T fitting with the gauge and sensor to the upper intake plenum, and it should get a good ground through that. Will update (with pics, hopefully) tomorrow.
Unfortunately I live in nearly the middle of nowhere so I’m usually better off paying slightly more through the local guys instead of waiting a week for online stuff 😆
It actually wasn’t bad to get it started in the hole, it’s *almost* a straight shot down from beside the edge of the manifold...
Ok boys, I have good news!
We’ve got a steady 40psi on the mechanical gauge at idle!
The bad news is, I shoulda called GM this morning, now I won’t be able to get the new sensor till Monday. Oh well, if that’s the worst news out of this situation we’re doing pretty well I’d say!
Wanna bet? Lol
Everything I read says 12 point will just round it off anyway.
Too late! Already built my “special tool”. Don’t look at my welds! 🙈
Just waiting for the thread sealer to cure and then the hose and gauge setup is going in, had to run to town and grab a couple fittings though.
If it all goes well I’ll just borrow the fuel pressure gauge setup I put on the Ram; grease gun hose, gauge, and snubber valve (though the valve is unnecessary in this application) and T the pressure sensor off of the grease gun hose in a better, more accessible location. Will probably have to...
Yeah I’ll check if I have a spare 1 1/16” 6 point socket I can cut up and modify instead, just gotta get the wood stove fired up in the shop. Took the day off to try and get this sorted out.
