Ok this technically isn’t a specifically Diesel engines question, but both vehicles involved are diesel so close enough lol. Any A/C guys on here?
The Backstory:
I have an old A/C compressor that came off my ‘03 Jetta TDI, it’s still in good shape, (I think now that I have it apart it must’ve...
Marty is right, they only work when your on the brake pedal. I’ve shunted many a trailer around with forklifts at work without issue, for that matter I’ve towed several with my truck without hooking up the connector 😳😂
My goodness I do believe you’ve struck it! That must be what’s going on with my “fleet”. Never occurred to me before but it makes perfect sense, they’re just like dogs, you pet one and they all come running and shove each other out of the way 🤣
Yeah probably best to just get a kit from one of the vendors like ID Parts, they make sure all the parts they sell are of good quality. There will be single-use bolts to replace on that job as well and the kit should include those. Usually German parts are best on these cars, I wouldn’t trust AC...
I doubt very much that the glow system being inop would have anything to do with the engine dying, it’s really only there to help with starting and if the car starts fine I don’t see how that could be the problem. But who knows, that’s just my opinion.
I skimmed a couple threads on this issue...
If you don’t know when the timing belt has been done, definitely look into doing it as soon as possible. They have a km/mile service interval, as well as a time interval, whichever comes first, and at 6 years you’re probably on borrowed time.
I’ve done my ALH once and a buddy’s BRM (06 Jetta as...
Not really sure what’s going on there, I’m thinking something with the wiring..? But I’d say don’t bother with glow plugs unless you verify the existing ones are bad, should be able to check resistance. Not sure what values those ones should be at though, they’re different than the ones on mine...
Funny you mention this, I just acquired a box full of assorted “out of spec” torque wrenches from my work that were being thrown out because “it’s cheaper to buy a new one than recalibrate”. Which may be true for the big guys, but us little guys can actually recalibrate them at the home shop...
Needle bearings in the spider gears have been missing for some time, I found bits of them on the magnet. Lots of slop in the gears as a result lol. I figured since I want to throw this small lift kit that’s been laying around in it one day anyway I might as well just swap the diff while I have...
Wow. Yup that’s sounds German to me 🤣
These TDI Jettas have timing belts though, and I haven’t heard about draining and filling the oil while changing those. Must be a different engine?
Maybe don’t get a Jetta then...
Trust me I love my TDI and I would get another any day, but I only recommend them to certain types of people 😂
They can be great cars but require very specific maintenance if you want them to treat you well. German engineering y’know... 🙄😆
