Safe to run straight distilled in cooling system?

Yeah I used to have a set of those metal inserts for the grille, but the last deer I hit kinda mutilated them, I should get some screen though. As for the taste, I wouldn’t know, and I don’t want to try em lol.

What did you do with your GMT400 today...or yesterday....

Yeah T-6 doesn’t list the right VW spec but it meets the same API ratings or something, I know lots of TDI guys use it. I would really recommend the TDIclub forum if you aren’t already a member, tons of info and smart people over there.

Safe to run straight distilled in cooling system?

Haha funny you should mention that, when I pulled the rad (condenser was ditched a long time ago) there was an enormous pile of dead grasshoppers in front of/underneath it, had to get out my shop vac to clean them up. I’ll try to post a picture. It seems they all hit the rad and later dropped...

Safe to run straight distilled in cooling system?

No kidding! Well that’s good to know, thanks!

What did you do with your GMT400 today...or yesterday....

Oh, I would hardly classify that as old haha, I was thinking 80’s-90’s. That would be a BRM then. Well, make sure to run proper engine oil that meets VW spec in that puppy, they’re picky about that. And timing belt (of course) and cam wear are the other TDI killers, much like our old GM diesels...

Safe to run straight distilled in cooling system?

Well, wish I had done that earlier, drained the distilled out and it was pretty dirty, which I thought was strange because after all the flushing I did last weekend it was coming out nice and clear, so I pulled the bottle out and gave er a good rinse and boy you were right, it was just filthy in...

At the risk of getting kinda far off topic, what year is this Jetta?

Safe to run straight distilled in cooling system?

Thank guys I will try to get it changed out after work today. And no, @JMJNet, I’m not taking my 6.5 on that trip, it might not make it that far lol. I just meant I wouldn’t haven time to work on it this week because of said trip.

Safe to run straight distilled in cooling system?

Just did my rad flush this weekend, waiting for a new T-stat to show up so I just filled the truck with distilled. Question is how long can I run this for before it starts to corrode things... The reason I ask is I may not be able to get the right T-stat this week as I am very busy with work and...

    Hello from Saskatchewan

Thanks for the tip, I’ll have to do that when I move my heat sink down to the bumper.

    Hello from Saskatchewan

Thanks Stoney, boy have they ever! I’m really liking the friendly community feel, haven’t really found that on any of the other forums I’m on, y’all really make a guy feel at ease.

What did you do with your GMT400 today...or yesterday....

Probably would heat like crazy if I was towing something though, after all that’s what the truck was designed for lol.

What did you do with your GMT400 today...or yesterday....

Oh and yes, when it’s good and cold the glass concern is very real, just not on my diesels, they warm up too slowly lol. My dad’s ‘96 Vortec cracked a nearly new windshield in just such a manner.

What did you do with your GMT400 today...or yesterday....

‘96 with the Cummins, they do not put out heat like the gassers, partly because the cooling system is overbuilt (not typically a bad thing) and partly because the heater system is underbuilt .

What did you do with your GMT400 today...or yesterday....

Haha yeah for most of the year I really don’t miss it, this summer though has been pretty toasty, we’ve had some near record high temps. But for what I use the truck for it wouldn’t be worth fixing the A/C, would only ever need it once a day on my drive home from work and besides, better fuel...

Hmm mine must be the rare one then, from looking at pics of them. But your description of the rare style a few post up doesn’t seem to match the pics I’m finding, could you include pics?

    Hello from Saskatchewan

Ahh yes that is a very good point, although maybe not a likely situation in my case as I rarely use this truck for anything but work, she’s really just my “beater”.

But the dual housing is constantly dumping hot coolant straight back into the WP, even with the Bypass Restrictor.
