Finally got some time to make progress this weekend. Yesterday I got the parts all welded in on the driver side.
Once that was done I started working on the back of the cab. First step was sandblasting the rear cab mount structure - it looked too hard to do a good job with a wire wheel, so...
I have considered that, and that is the reason I added the bracing while it was in the normally installed position. It’s challenging with so much metal removed because I don’t have a datum to measure off of - everything is just floating in space. Part of the issue I found was that I had also...
I had a hell of a time this week getting the floor pan and inner rocker to fit like I did on the passenger side. So I decided I’d work backwards and get the door hung and outer rocker installed first and that would establish where the floor needed to fit. I got the outer rocker all welded in and...
I got a lot of the old cut out tonight. For the passenger side I used the oxy-acetylene torch to cut a lot of the metal out, tonight I used the plasma and I was happier with how it worked, so I’m glad I gave it a try.
It's just sitting on 4x4s that are on jack stands. I thought about making a rotisserie, but I wasn't sure how I wanted to do it exactly, so I just did it the quick and dirty way.
Today I got the passenger side pretty far along. First thing I had to do was change some of the door opening bracing so I could install the door. I hadn’t really thought about installing the doors when I embarked on this, but I was thinking lately that it made a lot of sense, so that’s where I...
A couple popped up recently. Two of them were $1200 and one was $1500. I have $700 into patch panels, so yeah, I'm saving myself some money, but I'm starting to second-guess whether the savings are worth it. On the flip side, they don't make cabs anymore, so I am saving a cab that might...
Yesterday was a lot of panel installation, measuring, removal, tweaking. Install, measure, remove, tweak. Install, measure, remove, tweak. After many iterations I got to where I was happy with the fit and ready to start permanently installing parts. I decided the floor patch and inner rockers...
Started working on rust repair today. I started out by bracing the cab with some 14 gauge 1” square tubing. Maybe overkill, but I know I’ll be cutting a lot of metal out so I want to be sure the cab doesn’t move around too much.
After that I lifted the cab off the chassis and got the chassis...
Not much to report…..I got the chassis with the cab pulled in to the barn, but that’s it - the rest of this week/weekend has been consumed by house projects.
I got some new summer wheels and tires for the Envoy. I’ve been wanting a set of these for about 3 years and I found a set 2 hours away with tires and TPMS sensors already installed for less than half the price of new. These are a copy of GMC “Y-spokes” in a 20” x 9” size, that have the 6” x 5”...
This weekend I got the rear axle and its hardware painted. Unfortunately I made a mistake while painting...... I had the first coat of paint done before 8:00 yesterday, so I was expecting to be able to do the second coat around 12-12:30 or so. Unfortunately I had to wait until almost 3:00...
A hot day for us is 90 degrees F and 30% humidity. We do have hotter days (the hottest that I recall last summer was 95F and 43% humidity), but 90F is getting pretty hot for us.
