After success with the power steering pump, I went to work installing the 4wd actuator. New GM actuator and I now have 2Hi, 4Hi and AWD working as verified on pavement. 4Lo only flashes and does not shift into 4Lo, no matter whether it’s in Park, Neutral, Reverse, rolling in neutral or reverse...
OK replacement power steering pump arrived. Got it installed before a 1.5 hour quarterly staff meeting. Tested it after the meeting and knew immediately that it was working. Did some bleeding with it up on stands, engine off and engine on. Pulled reservoir cap and the fluid looks fizzy like soda...
I will give it one more shot (pump). If it’s bad again, then I will go AC Delco.
I will note that I have a $300 AC Delco encoder motor purchased off Amazon that was BOTB as confirmed by my mechanic.
In this case it’s Napa placing its lifetime warranty on new parts made in China. Same
China that can’t make a turbojet engine that lasts longer than 30 days in a fighter jet. All that said, I’m willing to bet the AC Delco pumps are also made in China.
Pulled the power steering pump and returned to Napa. They will have a new one to me in 2 days. The box says Hecho in China. If the next one does not work, I will request reimbursement and go with an AC Delco unit.
On the bright side, set a new record of 30 minutes to pull the pump. If I had a...
I will pull in the am and take it in (12 miles one way). They will have to order and it will be delivered to the house free like last one.
Did I tell you how great that takeout transmission is working in the 2014 4Runner?😂
Installed the pump with the bypass. Did the engine off bleed routine forever and the pump does not work. I will pull it in the am and take it back to Napa.
Drove over to talk to Wayne at Eagle Watch Automotive about my power steering pump issues. Showed him pics of the new slotted plunger vs the old plunger and he said no that is not a sealing surface. Showed him videos of the rotating sender and he said that is normal.
He asked if I had bled it...
Slow down. This is a new unit from Napa with a lifetime warranty. I expect it to work out of the box. I am willing to do the bypass which would confirm or eliminate the sender (my part) being the problem. The rest is on them and their lifetime warranty. If it’s the pump, I will request a refund...
The springs are the same. I am going with the bypass, new pump relief and spring. If that does not work, then I would consider swapping in old relief and spring. If it still does not work, it’s going back to NAPA and I will buy an AC Delco pump. By then I’ll have removal down to 30 minutes.
