Possible Engine Build for my 93 Truck

The guides are rarely a concern. The guide seals are what I am referring to

Possible Engine Build for my 93 Truck

Idk about valve guides yet. But the valve guide seals never survive well with sludge. If you don’t mind making a mess in your truck bed- get it all torn apart, put block & heads in the bed. Then go to a self service car wash. Simple pressure washing will get it. All a “hot tank” that...

Tractor pallet forks 48" vs 60"

I have to confess- onky used forks on a tractor two or three times. But on a front end loaded- a ton, and on a forklift way more than I wanna remember.

Possible Engine Build for my 93 Truck

    1. I really suggest this in its own thread. 2. It is amazing that bolt was in the cylinder with the better compression. 3. Acetone & ATF 50/50. Fill’er up & let it soak a couple days. With that much sludge- I couldn’t handle it. I would tear the engine all the way down at this point and...

Tractor pallet forks 48" vs 60"

I prefer 60”, but it’s easier to over do it and stab something you didn’t want to. So just be aware of that. It’s far better when loading a pallet (or similar) into a pickup truck because you grab it at the end of the forks and can load past the tailgate without repositioning and less risk of...

Possible Engine Build for my 93 Truck

That is the original type rocker arm. Yes most of us old dudes prefer that to the button type. Both type can become “bent” out of the 1.5:1 ratio. It is rare but happens with the intake faster than the exhaust ones. So how we did the check was simply take apart, clean, and use one to make...

Possible Engine Build for my 93 Truck

With it upside down- inspect the cylinder walls. Rotate crankas need to mo e pistons towards top of cylinder to see most of it.

How do you all get 6.2s to 300K miles

Thats odd - those being loose. Check both mounts and check the transmission mount

What did you do with your GMT400 today...or yesterday....

That guy makes his $$ rebuilding engines or selling new ones. When someone wants his shop to swap engines only - he gets labor but not the $$$ selling one. Not buying a used engine is same as not buying a used vehicle: if you buy a used car you bought a used engine, used transmission, used...

What did you do with your GMT400 today...or yesterday....

Yes. There is very little fore/aft shift of the crankshaft with auto trans. The force of the clutch throw out bearing generates a lot of wear on the thrust bearing on the crankshaft center bearing.

Possible Engine Build for my 93 Truck

Yuppers- one of the first 6.2 -660 blocks. That is what gm used for sensor connectivity before the weatherpack. It’s probably good and somewhere out there a guy will be wanting to find a good used one. How you two meet up is the hard part- haha. That’s a single stat non blockoff- but with...

How do you all get 6.2s to 300K miles

Oh my Ok… depending on clarity of the amp is if it should have the MUCH LARGER ground wire return directly to the battery and have a noise suppressor in line. You should have a large connection point for the ground which uses the same size cable as the power going to it. A common trick is a...

Possible Engine Build for my 93 Truck

Balanced injectors vs unbalanced are a far bigger impact to power than 6.2 vs 6.5. I wished when GEP started casting they went back to the 6.2. Bring some old oil incase he doesn’t have enough in there and a compression tester.

    Electronical Fuel Pressure Gauge

Remember there is another option for fuel gauges. If you add an ISOLATOR You can safely mount a mechanical gauge in the dash. It takes 2 to do the pre filter/post filter thing. Basically a blader that has a small compartment on either side. It has a fitting on each side of the bladder, one...

Tell me this is a late April fools joke… Or maybe have April change the drums this time?

    5.7 diesel up and running

The test fluid is best. If there was any REAL diesel fuel out there that would work- but the ethanol wrecks that now. Straight “base” oil that has no additives is ideal if you can find some, preferably 10wt but anything 50 or under works- the key is finding something with definitely no alcohols...
