    Problem: Heavy shudder upon braking

It was never an issue of the drums being out of round out of the box. My error on the brake shoe install on the right side lead to the left side locking up and the right side only having the rear shoe applying brake force. This resulted in overheating the drums causing “warping” which is really...

    Problem: Heavy shudder upon braking

I bought a second drum to replace the right rear and the shudder upon braking is completely gone. In fact the braking is now buttery smooth.

New Bosch India 6.5 turbo injectors

I purchased two sets of these injectors and I’m having them tested as we speak. First off, one injector is missing. These have sat on the shelf in the box they arrived in, individual injectors in their boxes most unopened and inside the injectors were sealed in heavy plastic bags. Why one...

    Problem: Heavy shudder upon braking

I’m having two sets of Bosch India injectors tested by Bill Heath. He will pull apart at least one to inspect for CKO indicators. As for the brake drums, I will know fairly quickly if the new one cured the issue. I have an incremental plan of attack for this issue and I’m working to it.

    Problem: Heavy shudder upon braking

I sense that you are fixated on this. To me it is not hard to pull a drum. I kept the first drum. Since it presumably warped due to overheat, I was not sure about turning it. With rotors, I never turn them because the “warped” area is from an increase in hardness of the metal due to heat. You...

    Problem: Heavy shudder upon braking

I will first try the new drum as is. If it does not cure the problem, then I will order a second drum for the other side. If that does not cure the problem, I will have them turned. Realize that my installation error caused the overheat problem and resultant warping. It was never there from...

    Problem: Heavy shudder upon braking

The local Napa charges $20 to turn this size drum.

    Problem: Heavy shudder upon braking

Everything is Chinese these days. I did not have problems when they were originally installed, other than the left rear locking up which was due to my install error on the right rear. If this drum is out of round, I will take it back to Napa. I bought from Napa for this reason as they have a 12...

    Problem: Heavy shudder upon braking

The vibration did not exist when the drums were initially installed. Belief is that the one locking up caused it to overheat and warp. The vibration started recently, like just before the tie rod broke which had me focused on the front.

    Problem: Heavy shudder upon braking

They are about 3 years old and about 15K miles. No they did not get checked before installing. Do I have Napa do that?

    Problem: Heavy shudder upon braking

By pulling the parking brake handle and braking moderately, he was able to isolate the braking to just the rear wheels. So when we felt the wop, wop, wop, we knew it was in the rear. It was the left rear that was locking up because I installed the brake shoes incorrectly on the right side with...

    Problem: Heavy shudder upon braking

Unplugging the ABS did not change a thing other than my ABS and Service 4wd lights turned off. I continued my drive over to Wayne at Eagle Watch Automotive and we went for a test drive. I showed him the shudder on heavy braking. He asked me to brake more moderately. Then he asked me to do the...

    Problem: Heavy shudder upon braking

ABS light is on. Occasionally it goes off and the system works. I had similar thoughts. I do not have my Tech 2 with me. Tests I did over the weekend indicated the ABS pump motor is shot. I’ve ordered a reman ABS unit which is all that you can get now. I could pull a plug and disable the ABS...

The spare is brand new. I can try putting that on, but I know the result will be the same.

    Problem: Heavy shudder upon braking

Same thing happened when I put new balanced tires on the front. They are on in the video. Feel nothing from the tires while driving at highway speed.

    Problem: Heavy shudder upon braking

Old rotors did it and brand new rotors are doing it. Do not feel it in the pedal nor at stops at slow speed.

    Problem: Heavy shudder upon braking

This is on my ‘99 Suburban. Have a shudder from the right front upon braking. It increases the heavier I hit the brakes. This was happening before the broken tie rod incident which was on the right front. I rebuilt the front end with new ball joints, tie rods, ES poly bushings on forged...
