Possible Engine Build for my 93 Truck

Nothing identified on those precups- I think those are the really tiny ones. It shouldn’t smoke too much with stock fueling and gm turbo kept around 10-12psi boost… but it might leave a bit of a cloud if you stomp it from a dead stop.

Possible Engine Build for my 93 Truck

For some reason I missed the post with them cleaned up. Good, disregard the dmso option. Those heads are desired because the valves flow better. But what precup is in it can determine what turbo it can handle. Read about small precups and using bigger turbo like hx40 by @WarWagon and when he...

Possible Engine Build for my 93 Truck

Our favorite Russian buddy always recommends the DMSO- but man you have to be fully covered when using it. That stuff drawe chemicals through your skin into your bloodstream. My memory is not much longer than my pinky toe, but I think the difference is of 1.94 versus a 2.02

    Build for member John S

GEP used same specifications for weight tolerances, bearing tolerances, etc. So no, unfortunately. The gep are just as bad as the gm. No, D-Dec is completely different. It’s like saying a flat head ford and a flat head Willy’s jeep head and a lawn mower head are all the same design concepts...

Because so many of the issues was poor diagnostics then poor repair or correction theories. They are know for garbage injection pumps- when the db2 is amazing for multi-fuel and lasts 350,000 and the ds4 handles 250,000 no problem if proper fuel supply pressure is there. The horrible ds4...

Possible Engine Build for my 93 Truck

Valve spring compressor can often be rented free at auto parts stores doing the pay first then return for refund. If you are planning on rebuilding multiple engines- then yes you can buy one. Otherwise there is also some diy tricks you can learn on YouTube to just lever it. DO NOT use a...

    GM parted ways with Allison

it all sums up in the line from the first post: “…the reality is that the Allison partnership has been mostly a branding exercise since 2020, when GM introduced its HD 10-speed automatic—which, let's be honest, owes more to Ford than it does Allison” Ford & Gm went in together on making...

How do you all get 6.2s to 300K miles

If you go on YouTube and search “squarebody door” you’ll find dozens of videos and none of them cover everything. But it is time well spent to watch before you start messing around. For some adjustments the fender has to come off. For some it’s removing the parking brake pedal/release...

    Lower Intake Thread Repair Solutions.

Ya might look at hmmwv non turbo manifolds. They are non egr, do not have the mounting tabs for the ffm in the back. Other than that- same lower intake. There is no upper intake hmmwvs. It’s plastic air horn.

How do you all get 6.2s to 300K miles

The striker pin is that bolt in your pictures that the door latch hooks onto when closed. Barely loosen it, and there is a captured nut behind it and large washers on both sides. It goes through a fairly large hole. By moving it up/down/ in / out you can adjust where the latch area of the...

Possible Engine Build for my 93 Truck

The guides are rarely a concern. The guide seals are what I am referring to

Possible Engine Build for my 93 Truck

Idk about valve guides yet. But the valve guide seals never survive well with sludge. If you don’t mind making a mess in your truck bed- get it all torn apart, put block & heads in the bed. Then go to a self service car wash. Simple pressure washing will get it. All a “hot tank” that...

Tractor pallet forks 48" vs 60"

I have to confess- onky used forks on a tractor two or three times. But on a front end loaded- a ton, and on a forklift way more than I wanna remember.

Possible Engine Build for my 93 Truck

    1. I really suggest this in its own thread. 2. It is amazing that bolt was in the cylinder with the better compression. 3. Acetone & ATF 50/50. Fill’er up & let it soak a couple days. With that much sludge- I couldn’t handle it. I would tear the engine all the way down at this point and...

Tractor pallet forks 48" vs 60"

I prefer 60”, but it’s easier to over do it and stab something you didn’t want to. So just be aware of that. It’s far better when loading a pallet (or similar) into a pickup truck because you grab it at the end of the forks and can load past the tailgate without repositioning and less risk of...

Possible Engine Build for my 93 Truck

That is the original type rocker arm. Yes most of us old dudes prefer that to the button type. Both type can become “bent” out of the 1.5:1 ratio. It is rare but happens with the intake faster than the exhaust ones. So how we did the check was simply take apart, clean, and use one to make...

With it upside down- inspect the cylinder walls. Rotate crankas need to mo e pistons towards top of cylinder to see most of it.

Thats odd - those being loose. Check both mounts and check the transmission mount

What did you do with your GMT400 today...or yesterday....

That guy makes his $$ rebuilding engines or selling new ones. When someone wants his shop to swap engines only - he gets labor but not the $$$ selling one. Not buying a used engine is same as not buying a used vehicle: if you buy a used car you bought a used engine, used transmission, used...

What did you do with your GMT400 today...or yesterday....

Yes. There is very little fore/aft shift of the crankshaft with auto trans. The force of the clutch throw out bearing generates a lot of wear on the thrust bearing on the crankshaft center bearing.
