How do you all get 6.2s to 300K miles

The condition of those batteries is most likely what took your alternator out. they will take your new shiny chrome one out too!

How do you all get 6.2s to 300K miles

Since they are still new, you might try a battery desulfator to maybe rejuvenate them. it's basically shock therapy for the battery, but it's unlikely they will recover. with the test results showing under 400 cca left in them, I would not try and crank it with them at all. any electronics...

    Aluma seal or bars leaks ? ? ? ?

My first thought was since it's at the first few tubes, check the welding at the bracing that goes across between the tanks. wondering if that has also cracked allowing the core to flex. where it's fins are damaged, I know it's real easy to damage them where it looks worse than it really is...

What did you do with your GMT400 today...or yesterday....

I vote you have the best looking 6.5 under the hood there! I jeally LOL all that shiny stuff! Those nuts should hold and lock in place well, I was also thinking nord locks too but looks like you mastered that with those nuts.

How do you all get 6.2s to 300K miles

I've had decent luck with walmart batteries over the years, but recently they have gotten whatever about getting them warrantied. this last year we have had nothing but bad luck with batteries in general. weren't the ones you have still within warranty? lately I have been just getting...

    Aluma seal or bars leaks ? ? ? ?

I've not seen any sort of hot glue epoxy used, but have seen them solder / aluminum weld them. you have to be very careful heating those areas with a torch. I once attempted to weld up some AC fittings on my own with some low head aluminum rods. it went well until it didn't LOL all was...

How do you all get 6.2s to 300K miles

Here is something else you can do if your local store needs a copy of the actual receipt. call the napa you bought it from, give them the date of purchase and have them look it up. they can find any transaction for that part number for that day, then ask them to scan a copy of it and email it...

How do you all get 6.2s to 300K miles

your alternator is not what I'd call a "high output" if it's only an 85 amp rating. might be a step up from what your rig calls for from factory. an 85 amp rating really means it can sustain 40-45 amps continuous with short intervals of it's max 85 amps without burning it up. your rig uses...

What did you do with your GMT400 today...or yesterday....

when going back together with the turbo, use a tiny smear of red RTV on both sides of the inner lip of that metal gasket. the inner lip should have a bump like a bead roll that gets smashed when it's bolted down. not much of a seal when the surfaces aren't perfectly flat to each other. the...

What did you do with your GMT400 today...or yesterday....

Not sure if this constitutes in the same manor as in Bill's article, but I did do AK's version of the cooling upgrade on my 95 a good while back. it still had the factory pump with the bolt on original fan clutch and the factory fan. I replaced it all with a GM pump for a 2000 6.5 that uses...

How do you all get 6.2s to 300K miles

The do read correct, They read the voltage in the cab. but we don't know if there is a difference between the power in the cab vs at the battery. GM did a poor job with wire sizing and connections going into the cab, voltage at the battery can be perfectly fine and in the cab can read low. I...

How do you all get 6.2s to 300K miles

If your seeing normal 13.5~ voltage at high speed but goes low cruising around town, it almost sounds like a diode has failed in the alternator. at idle you should be seeing normal charge voltage (above 12 volts = 13.1+) as you increase the RPM to around 800-1000 voltage from the alternator...

How do you all get 6.2s to 300K miles

those cigar plug adapters only are reading voltage that is going into the cab. need to get a real multi-meter and probe the batteries and on the back of the alternator. one of these meters... you can pick up a cheap one at any auto parts that will work fine for this.

How do you all get 6.2s to 300K miles

Autozone will be able to tell you if the batteries are an issue, but even with a low battery when the engine running the output on the alternator should be higher than shown on your gauge. when you get your batteries back charged, do you have a multi-meter? lets do some checking with it.

How do you all get 6.2s to 300K miles

I wonder if by leaving the key on overnight and the battery draining out has done anything to the regulator in the alternator. best to check voltages at the alternator and battery comparing to what the gauge shows. your video showing you going down the road, your gauge should have been...

How do you all get 6.2s to 300K miles

I think you have something going on with the alternator or wiring to it. need to check voltage at the stud on the back when your meter in the dash is this low. also probe both of the spade connectors when it's running. you should see positive voltage on both spade terminals iirc as well as...

What did you do with your GMT400 today...or yesterday....

Well I haven't been home long getting off work, maybe an hour, but I went outside to look at something on the truck and go out there to see this in the driveway! looks like I might be pulling the timing cover sooner than I want to. I know it's been leaking ever since I got the truck, but it...

    Timekeeper explosion in P400

I just went out to have a looksee and yeah I was mistaken, it's on the block right at the edge where the timing cover meets which made me think it was on the cover.

    Aluma seal or bars leaks ? ? ? ?

you planning to stay on the property while your house is under construction? maybe a travel trailer or RV? heck you might even enjoy the RV so much that you want to keep it like that LOL I've heard it's a nice change. that's my plan once our boys venture out into the wild!

How do you all get 6.2s to 300K miles

Looking at your pic, there are two penny size holes in the metal air cleaner that need to be sealed up too. as for the tubing, the hard part will be getting something in the oval shape that fits up to the metal housing. other than that, you can run a combination of aluminum piping and silicone...
