I have a new unused DSG set. The dog bone measures .065" thick. Keep in mind there are shims between the dog bone and the gears, I didn't have time to take it apart to measure the shims, but with thinner shims a thicker dog bone could be used.

Run bolts then, save some money.

The water pump backing plate/adapter cover IS removed because the water pump has 5 bolts on the back that connect the pump to the backing/adapter place., NOT the timing cover or front cover in your pic..... the gears can't be removed or seen very well without removing the timing cover.... As...

To just change a water pump the timing cover doesn't need to be touched, the water pump backing plate bolts to the timing cover...

And why did he remove that cover to replace the water pump?

Obviously it wasn't, the directions say to grind the shafts for clearance.... those gaskets that can be purchased aren't anywhere close enough to get .050" clearance unless a person uses 8-10 of them....

@CursedH1 There is no gasket from the factory, I don't use gaskets, the idler gears are supposed to be put in place and the clearance of the shafts checked so they will float.... I use clay for measuring the clearance, I go for .050" clearance... This is after the fact your gears bound up and...

You can load it on anything you want and just not get paid for it... They have rules for things they pay for as you know...

One things for sure, you won't be running fast pulling that.

I'm going to be blunt here... You own a truck you don't know much about and it sounds like you can't work on it on your own. You should consider selling it and buying a plane ticket home then get in another sport car, something you are use to and move on...

You could slow down a bit, your pushing that motor far past it's limits and the cold weather on your route won't help... And have a plan if it dies..

McMaster has all sorts and sizes of washers, as for the nut, I've not looked for them... With a thick hard washer the nut you have work's...

Not the hardened I was referring to, 8's aren't hardened just stronger than 5's...
