Need .001 accuracy for true thickness although that doesn't necessarily tell any sort of story. .1046" is 12 ga for example.

Those teeth appear peened so it makes me wonder if they are either soft or if the tooth spacing in inconsistent, possibly causing the dog bone to fatigue.
