The injection pump is a reman unit with updated governor assembly so no flex rings to worry about. Both the injectors and the pump itself have been sitting for several years without being used so I think a good run on the highway will improve things.
I did buy a set of 8 several years ago in gm boxes but I had trouble with two right from the start. So I had them checked and the shop found two out of 8 that were faulty. So they sent me two reman injectors. As of now the engine has a slight rough idle so I just figured once the liquimoly cleaner...
Today some archoil diesel injector cleaner arrived from Amazon and another serpentine USA made belt for my 5.7 diesel.I look forward in using the archoil product in the 5.7 and my other diesel vehicles.I read archoil is a good product.
I may of heard of that product before but I have’nt used it.The balancer and pulley are back on the engine and torqued in place after using some loctite.I’m looking forward in getting this truck road ready.I don’t have much more to do with it but I’m pretty eager to start driving it again.Its...
The shop called today saying the collar is ready.Heres a picture of what it looks like. There isn’t much to it but I’m going to use larger outside diameter flat washers so the collar/ring doesn’t decide to work loose and fall out.Its a tight fit though.I had the pulley off and the collar is...
I did a lower driver control arm removal on my 96 K1500 but it had the stamped steel version.I didn’t have any problems with the clearance getting the bolts out past the differential.Maybe I got lucky for some reason.I reinstalled new moog AWD astrovan control arms.I like them. They fit...
You are indeed right.I used arp main studs on this olds engine.I probably should have used them on the heads but I’m sure the arp head bolts will hold up okay.
Here’s a old picture I found of the 5.7 diesel using CAT head bolts. You can see the cat stamping on a couple. They are the 1/2-13 like what gm used back in the day.I find hardened washers under CAT head bolts if anyone decides to use them makes a huge difference.
I got hooked into these engines because my father bought his C10 back in 1980.Its a 1979 but the original D block snapped a piston pin gouging the cylinder wall so I was interested in finding another 5.7 diesel to go back into the truck when I became old enough to work on it.I’ve been hooked...
When I first bought that cav unit about 15-20yrs ago it had the filters with glass bowls and an o-ring top and bottom which would occasionally cause leaks, etc so I kept the unit and found the conversion kit to allow a spin on filter to be used. Its a great conversion.
