Definitely on the downhill side of this project. Both valve covers are glued back on , intake is back on, turbo is back on. Still to do is to make some bracket extensions for the wiring bracket that goes to the intake. Then the FFM and tubing, fan clutch and fan, and coolant crossover. Then...
So got side tracked by a couple of things but the front of the engine is back together. Now I'm tackling the rocker buttons. Got the DS valve cover off. Pleasantly surprised at how little sludge I have.
One thing I forgot to mention is the gearset I'm using doesn't use snap rings it uses a spiral lock on both sides. Not sure where it came from my other kit is a DSG.
The db2 comes with many different size plungers. Bigger equates to more fuel. You need to look up the specs on your pump to see which plunger it has. Most NA come with a smaller plunger but that's not necessarily meaning you can't run a turbo with it. It can be turned up and provide a decent...
well spent most of the day so far making a keyway, in order to use the reluctor I need a special keyway that comes in the kit that I don't have. Chris was nice enough to send me a drawing with dimensions. I have been test fitting it on a crank I have sitting around. so far no luck. my...
Yes I sent it to leroy so he could use it to make others, so I assume it was taken apart. I do have the thrust washer on the cam gear. Getting ready to go out to the shop and start working on it.
So according to Chris's pictures the long end of the idler shaft goes forward which I have. Must have been reassembled wrong if the snap ring goes outwards too. I'm assuming the cam gear goes on farther and the camshaft will come forward. If one of the idler gears is bigger it's not easily spotted.
so kinda a pian to install in the truck. Also not sure I like how the gears line up. Idler gears seem to set back farther than the crank and cam gears. Maybe they float around just seems like a lot.
Time for some preventative maintenance. 291k on the clock. Hoping to do gear drive ,I have two , so I thought I may as well put one on this engine. Timing chain doesn't have as much slop as I thought it would for that many miles. Also time for a new water pump as this one seems to be leaking...
