been having update issuess, feel i need to restore to a previous date, have questions

Yes, it is highly recommended. If your "data" is that critical (e.g., business) or important (e.g., personal), it is highly recommended to store them on a separate drive (hard drive, flash drive, network drive, etc.). Of course, you could just keep it on the existing hard drive, but you...

Windows XP Pro firewall not coming on

Search this forum for threads about securing your hardware firewall as WarWagon and many others highly recommend you install in lieu of software firewalls.

been having update issuess, feel i need to restore to a previous date, have questions

If your backup in November was a full backup (OS, programs/applications, user data [files, documents, photos, videos, etc.]), then restoring your laptop with that backup will, literally, bring your laptop back to that point in time. Note that you will lose all files, documents, photos...

    Speeding a PC back up?

Another tip to speed up a program/process: - start Task Manager (ctrl-alt-del/Task List, or Run/taskmgr, etc.) - click on Processes tab - click on column heading "Image Name" or "Process" - find your app, e.g., iexplore.exe (for Internet Exploder) - right-click, "Set Priority" and click...

    installing HHO on GM 6.5TD

I haven't run HHO and WMI together but am planning to. The added oxygen from HHO (hydrogen-hydrogen-oxygen) generation for a cleaner burn is what helps improve efficiency/fuel consumption. Without O2/Lambda sensors, our diesels are perfect for the application. The cooling of the charge...

Great White, pour in a can of Engine Restore & Lubricant (V8 size) every oil change... It started to help with the Beast's blowby and oil consumption after two oil changes. What route are you taking and timeframe for the trip? We'll look out for ya...

    1. Navigate to the folder that contains an .rtf document 2. Right-click on the .rtf document 3. Select "Open With" 4. Select "Choose Program" 5. Select/highlight the program you always want to use to open .rtf documents, e.g., "Paint" (I prefer a word processor like "Word") 6. Check the box...

Signal light flashes fast when turning left, no bulbs burnt out...

Did not recognize you without the underwear over your head/face... oh, wait a minute, that's what's his face... I was going to suggest moving the left side bulbs to the right and vice versa to see if the symptoms move, too... would have ID'd the half-burnt-out bulb then...

    Speeding a PC back up?

You know, those external USB-connected SATA drives work well, too, if you want to consider it for the "old crappy one" to speed it up... I tend to ignore spin rates (RPM) and focus on transfer rates instead. Less than $50 for 500 GB with free shipping...

    Speeding a PC back up?

Thanks, Tim. They don't generate any more heat than lesser capacity drives, speed up and slow down as needed to save energy (even lesser heat). When you think about it, they use less energy per GB of storage. Video cards generate significantly more, hence heatsinks and cooling fans on them...

Regarding page/swap files: I have three (3) hard drives... 1. The first, a 400 GB PATA/EIDE drive, partitioned into C: (contains the OS, applications) and E: (back ups of configuration files, drivers, WinXP CD, etc.) 2. 1 TB SATA drive, F: (contains user/data files) 3. 1 TB SATA...
