Yeah-thats where a permanent mounted fuel pressure gauge thats tapped at the ip inlet and the clear return line being monitored comes into play. I’ve had guys chase an intermittent rough start for years end up tracking it down because the pressure gauge showed a temporary drop in pressure.
Ok. Fuel pressure going to the ds4 should be 8-14 psi. But so long as it has any pressure at all it should start & run.
The clear line - 1/4” diameter about 5” long that is in place for the ip return line-

Bolt in cat is far better. Remove it for play time, have it to install when needed. If he added cost of a couple flanges added in is minimal compared to issues that can occur.

Yup. And in some states, smog certified shops are required to turn in someone without the gear. Hence my reasoning of store the old parts, you can easily explain the parts were removed for that one particular off road or racing application.
The difference is nominal vs absolute. Absolute is NOTHING 14 and larger gets through. nominal is the average that gets through is 14 but could allow a certain percentage up to say 50. So make sure to find the spec difference of absolute & nominal.

Imo going to the Fass water separator is worth it. You can get just a spin on mount for that. Not knowing the other one you are looking at- just hope it works for you. The factory ffm has filter, a poor water separator, and a good fuel heater.
