What did you do with your GMT400 today...or yesterday....

I figured if we wrap the new oil cooler hoses in clear fuel line (only 3/4” in diameter) the new hoses will be fine. “I say, I say, that’s a joke son….” Regardless, it was a short day given parts gathering. Took our time, had to go to several stores and then it was lunch time…. Stripped a few...

Got a break in that department. Bill doesn’t need me in WA next week so I can rest up, head your way Thursday and get started prepping what still needs doing while you slave away Friday. Drop it in Saturday/Sunday. If it doesn’t start, I’ll throw more $5 bills on Waynes shop floor as I flee Monday.

Hooked up with Bill Heath at Bonneville to crew for Flatliner Racing’s little 1.5L diesel. Good shake out runs (no record attempts) for next event (World Finals) or next year’s Speed Week in August. Builder/Owner/Driver with his creation. Paint Scheme inspired by 1952-53 VW “Bus”...

    VW powered Eye Candy

Crewed for this little beauty last week at the Salt Flats. Owner’s first diesel but, he is a bonafide VW nut. Numerous records in VW powered classes with his Carmen Gia to include 2 Cylinder modified blocks…Salt Flats, El Mirage and Australia. Grew up working for Gene Whitfield in his garage so...

    Stuck with my 6.5

Lower compression motor, difficult to start, white smoke reeking of acrid diesel fumes, rough running...sounds a lot like white I was experiencing except for the BD2 vs. my DS4. My lower compression was achieved with shorter pistons that don't protrude above the block vs. shorter rods. So, if...

Cut and assembled a 6AN Turbo Oil Feed Line for BigT's new motor. Tested it to 55 PSI with soapy water at all points and no bubbles. Added the x2 NPT-6AN fittings for the motor and the turbo sides too. Otherwise, no bueno. Swapped in the ARP Starter Bolts and packed up the one I scavenged...

    '95 Engine build

From posts on other websites it looks like they tried to sue Dodge…and lost. Sorry SnowDrift, this is derailing the heck outta your thread….

    CV Axle Seperation

Pulled the 2” blocks out. Easier than going in. Truck is sitting level again. After the August / September road trips are over I’ll find a shop that will do the welding and start on getting the differential back up where it belongs. Man it has been a long circular journey trying to unscrew this...

    CV Axle Seperation

No, Les Schwab will not install parts they didn't procure and there's no way they'll procure anything from Rough Country. Return Authorization received from RC and these units are going back. So, I had them un-screw what I did to the OEM upper's and I've only raised the torsion bars by about an...

    CV Axle Seperation

Truck's back. Les Schwab guy said it was easy, I'd done all the hard work. Turns out all I needed was a bigger pickle fork. Didn't know I was behind in the pickle fork department. Coulda saved a little $$ but, they re-aligned it since I did turn up the torsion bars an inch or so. Drives straight...

What did you do with your GMT400 today...or yesterday....

Somehow I missed the info in this post. Thank you. I ordered them this morning. I found the bolts I did have saved after we got home but…3/8”, not M-10. I’d have screwed up and tried these out had it not been for this experience. So, again, thanks for the assist.

    CV Axle Seperation

So, after several hours of struggling to free the upper control arm ball joint from the knuckle I had to pause and think all this through and came to a realization that ya'll probably wanted to say but, were too say. The root issue is the differential's positioning (lowered) and I'm chasing my...

    CV Axle Seperation

Sorry lads, 'Pictures or it didn't happen.' 'Stray [truck] Strut.' Photo angle almost makes it worse than it is. 2" lift blocks and Old Bilstein 5100 New Upper Control Arms. I may still have the old style ones laying around. If so, I'll do a comparison picture post up.

    CV Axle Seperation

Got the new differential cleaned up, de-rusted and applied a couple coats of POR-15 to keep things under control. Shot some gloss black caliper paint over the POR-15 to keep it in place. Got the 2" blocks and 5100 series Bilstein's installed on the back. With its tail up in the air the truck...

    CV Axle Seperation

The lowered differential and the oversized bump stops are two separate issues. The aftermarket bump stop that 'fits your truck' looks to be about 3x the size of actual OEM. That's how it can be made to rest on the lower control arm. Makes for a lousy, noisy ride too. Technically, there's...

    CV Axle Seperation

I liked it too and I’ve missed it. Yesterday I tried turning up the torsion bars and swapping in the 5100 series shocks. Of course, I discovered a couple of issues. Torsion Bars. With the front end off the ground, the upper control arms are almost in contact with the frame mount that limits...

    CV Axle Seperation

I don't think omitting that hefty bottom bracket, OEM or otherwise, is anything but a recipe for a new differential. That's a hunk of steel in there originally and the drop bracket isn't a light weight item either. Here's some shots of the four brackets that comprise the differential drop in...
