"Go Big or Go Home" Get stuck at home when the parts bill gets too big.
Looking at recycle yards for a new diff. Might as well, this one lasted, oh, a month? Actually, several years and would have lasted longer but, we now all know why it hasn't and 'this is why we can't have nice things.'
The output shaft seal is leaking from the latest impacts of the tripot coming apart. Prior to that, the truck was house trained, garage and driveway friendly. Even after the hit, without a half-shaft spinning because I had the ‘hub-stub’ only in place, the seal wasn’t leaking.
Can’t restore...
Well, I’m the one who’s got his finger on the the ID-10-T Mode Engaged” button.
More ignorant really but, feeling stooopid.
I’m checking out the differential and now know what a “Differential Lowering Bracket” looks like vs. OEM lower diff. Mount.
It looks like this:
Edit time limit expired. BLUF, the lift kit I bought in 2007 didn't have a drop kit for the differential.
With reference to the picture in post #76 above...
Now, for the Upgraded Set Up, one has to cut the lower driver's side differential mount from the frame, grind it down to ensure clearance...
An additional thought on the differential drop bracket. On the gasser truck, to drop the differential a little or, with a 6" lift a lot, wouldn't be an issue but, you just can't do that with the 6.5 because of the front drive shaft to exhaust cross over clearance. It's tight as it is and...
Not to worried about the alignment from a cost or execution standpoint as I’m still inside the Les Schwab ‘warranty’ period. They honored it when other work has been done to suspension in the past.
You might be on to something with the differential mount. I didn’t think the 3” Rough Country...
Appreciate the insights, observations and suggestions.
Will L., the vanishing bump stops are a mystery. I give credit, if any, to the shop that installed the lift back in N.C. I shoulda known I'd made a big mistake when I notice the truck driving sideways/crabwalking down the road when I was...
Welcome to the site. That’s a nice looking rig. Should serve you well in S.D.
Agree with the advice on transmissions. The diesels got the 4L80s and for good reason so, if there’s still time, might want to talk to the transmission shop.
JayTheCPA called it on the passenger side battery. It needs...
I’ve been hesitant to resurrect this thread with a new issue but, don’t want to bog down the ‘What did you do to your 6.5 today’ thread with the resurgence of an old issue.
CLIFF NOTES to save re-reading the thread.
I’ve had a chronic issue with driver’s side half-shaft coming apart at the...
A few years ago I got an 85 Capric and the paint was pretty faded (original).
Griott's Clay and Speed Shine to clean the paint.
Then I used a their three step progressive polish with step three being fine. I used a different foam pad for each step and the wax with a Dual Action Sander...
Oh boy BigT, another paint job!
Honestly, a good paint cleaning w/ clay, a light polish and, maybe a run down a dusty road, and nobody will know the difference.
AWOL Bump Stop issue solved.
New MOOG units arrived yesterday and went in this morning without issue.
I get that the site says, ‘fits your 96 K1500” but, they look huge compared to the OEM units I saw on another K1500.
Now why had my front differential decided to suddenly take a piss on...
No issues with Duraterms / therms…whatever. Had this set in for several years. When the heads were pulled Jan 23, they inspected good and, as such, have been re-used. No winter starting woes at 20 F or below last year and I didn’t use a block heater just to see how the new heads were working...
WarWagon’s suggestion to check on condition of batteries is sound. Have them tested and do as he says and check the battery cables as well. Starter motor may be giving up the ghost but, the two I’ve had fail just up and quit w/o a hint. Never know though.
Any recent work done where the Glow...
Built a list of things to do post trip and, after getting postponed yesterday rescuing the Spousal Unit (flat tire), I started in on it today.
Not Truck related was getting the lawn mowed early since it was in need before we left two weeks ago.
Jacked up the back, drained the gear oil. Checked...
You might try stripping one and just shoot the caliper paint on bare metal vs the enamel undercoat. That’s how I did my wiper arms and you saw how they turned out.
Been a long day driving and trying to stay awake. Gave up two hours from home. Anyway, the correct terminology that escaped me was ‘both the compressor and the turbine sides are supposedly redesigned. I once asked Bill if they just stuffed a wicked wheel in there. He looked hurt. Said they...
