What did you do with your GMT400 today...or yesterday....

R152a is much safer than any of the flammable refrigerants and the molecules are larger than r12 or 134a. hence why you use less, also leaks slower if there is a leak. lower pressures and less drag on the compressor too! I'm running the GM orange orifice tube which is 0.062 vs the factory...

What did you do with your GMT400 today...or yesterday....

I ended up re-using a piece of plastic I had originally cut from an old ice cream bucket, reshaping it to fit to cover the open gap on the right side. recharged it using the R152a I had recovered from the system before I started and had to add a little more from a can I had, about 18 oz in...

What did you do with your GMT400 today...or yesterday....

Here is the install... the condenser is a used one I pulled from the pick a part yard last year. had it in the garage all this time only because of the welded line wouldn't fit the threads on the condenser. what do y'all think I should use to fill the open gaps up top and mainly on the...

What did you do with your GMT400 today...or yesterday....

Well this evening I started tearing into the 95 to attempt replacing the ac condenser. started with the brush guard, I figured out that I can remove the 4 bolts on the bumper and let it hang since the lower part is bolted to the frame. that gave me enough room to get the grille out. pulled...

How do you all get 6.2s to 300K miles

buying new injectors nowadays is a crap shoot if you will get genuine Bosch nozzles or something made in china even when getting Bosch branded ones. what you want is the ones made in Germany, but most come from India unless it's a chineseium copy, but that's not saying India made ones are bad...

How do you all get 6.2s to 300K miles

It also depends on which injectors both the engine and your k5 have. normally a 6.2 in that era used the long body injectors which can work, but iirc the thread connection for the IP lines could be different. also the long body injectors may or may not fit with turbo exhaust manifolds...

    Suggestions welcome

the 2500 with 454 should tow but will be a gas hog. will still need some upgrades like a trans cooler, but should come stock with a 4l80e. even better if equipped 4x4. if looking at it to buy, be sure to look at the tag on the drivers door frame and see what it's setup for stock as for...

    1995 GMC 6.5 TD thermostat

I learned from work to use air first, then water. the muck out there at my work turns into an adobe brick when wet!

    1995 GMC 6.5 TD thermostat

Another tip... do NOT use the GM orange DEXCOOL !!!! go back with the old school green antifreeze, and these diesels do not need any PH modifiers like the newer diesels need. those additives actually do more harm than good on these old IDI engines. the GM dexcool gets very corrosive, I...

    1995 GMC 6.5 TD thermostat

While your in there with the thermostat, when was the last time you flushed the cooling system? I mean pulling the block drains, removing the coolant recovery thank and rinsing it out and possibly even going as far as pulling and flushing out the radiator? I wish I had a video of when I...

    1995 GMC 6.5 TD thermostat

iirc dual stats didn't come out until 97. there is a one of a kind much saut after 96 style, but anything older should have a single stat with a block-off plate like the ones in the link I posted above.

is your rig a single thermostat or dual? if it's like mine with the single thermostat here are the part numbers for the 180 and 195. https://www.rockauto.com/en/moreinfo.php?pk=4484214&cc=1034558&pt=2200&jsn=655 https://www.rockauto.com/en/moreinfo.php?pk=4484472&cc=1034558&pt=2200&jsn=656

How do you all get 6.2s to 300K miles

What trans is in your rig? if it's a 4l80e then itll be an electric speedo, 7r400 uses cable driven. I have one of those GPS speedo's, they work decent but they take a few minutes to connect and register speed when turned on. they are also nice to use to calibrate your speedo once you get...

95 6.5 TD new injectors - now low mpg

I would not do that on a running engine! taking another IP and doing that in a controlled environment is much safer! I can't remember but I think some john deere tractors use a similar DB2 IP but is setup for a 4 cylinder engine. really any IP that produces those pressures and can be...

95 6.5 TD new injectors - now low mpg

engine sounds good, but in your tests I would question the spray pattern of #3 and #7. #4 and #8 is what you want to hear and see from all of them especially from new injectors. I have always thought about rigging up an old DB2 IP, doesn't matter if it's off a 4 banger tractor or from a...

How do you all get 6.2s to 300K miles

I agree, probably need to have those injectors leak down tested. I can do it for you, but it would leave your rig down for a bit unless you have a spare set to have setup and then swap them out. when it's doing that, if you give it a little RPM from the go pedal, does it fog the area for...

What did you do with your GMT400 today...or yesterday....

Well spent the day playing in my cad software on my pc along with doing other household duties in between.. made several iterations of this stack-able gauge pod and now I think we have a winner! I did a custom base to try and fill in as much of the gaps on the pillar as possible while still...

    1994 GMC 3500 hd 6.5 turbo diesel

I'm not sure they are available anymore, others can verify that. if the hose is there and just plugged off, iirc that T valve is just a brass drain valve with one end having 1/4" hose barb for the hose coming from the FFM (fuel filter manager). the other end is open, the original had another...
