4l80e time for a new one

Agreed. Agreed again. This pressure adjustment we are talking about is sometimes referred as governed pressure because of vehicle speed as the vehicle speed is sensed. The Throttle position sensor sends TP signal to the computer. The pressure adjusted at the PCS solenoid is not...

4l80e time for a new one

Pressure test that dammm transmission. There is a pressure port on the driver's side. Run a fitting, line and pressure gauge. Make the line long enough so you can see it while driving. There should be around 85-100 in the forward ranges. The reverse will be higher. If the pressure...

ABS light, can it be turned off?

Those ABS sensors actually work this way. They have a magnet and create their own current. There are two leads. Sometimes you will find that one of the sensor wires (leads) will scrape or suffer road damage/debris. If one of those (fragile) leads take a beating the ABS will light up...

Code 81 and not shifting out of first

I'd say more power to you. Knowledge is power. As long as the scanner is reciprocal. Meaning you can shift with the scanner. Actuate EGR systems and the like. You will do good. Let me know what you find out. I would be curious what your TPS is reading.

Code 81 and not shifting out of first

The issue with that is this. Suppose you have a delayed shift. Are you going to rebuild the transmission? There are computer programs that emulate the Tech2. If I was there to help you diagnose that tranny it might be a different story. Check out dieselplace 4L80-E transmissions. I put a...

Code 81 and not shifting out of first

That would be engine load. Allow me to explain. There are basically two signals going into the computer. The Engine RPM signal and the throttle position signal. I believe you addressed the throttle position sensor. Lets address the RPM signal. There should be a two lead wire harness coming...

    GM 262 V6 Diesel - 80s

Get you one of those snap on remote cameras and have a look see through the injector holes. Best investment I ever did. That camera has saved me time and money from everything from under the dash to rotating motors. Peering into cylinders to check for TDC is a breeze. You can drop the...

Code 81 and not shifting out of first

-------touchy------------. Why it is shifting hard in 1-2 I don't know. If 2-3 is shifting harder because she is was adjusted then bring her back to .47. She might shift a bit softer. That is your end result your looking for. It takes patience and a bit of time to find the right shift...

Code 81 and not shifting out of first

Sounds like it wants to shift a bit late. Try adjusting the TPS to .50 and give that a try. Might work for you. <<<<<<<<<<<<<I am getting rusty at this>>>>>>>> I won't be surprised to see it shift a bit softer and smoother through first gear. Shifting harder or softer for that matter...

    4L80E Questions

If your PCM didn't throw a code for bad solenoids then the circuits are good to those solenoids. However the pressure testing could have verified the shifting solenoids. I doubt the shop pulled the 1-2 and the 2-3 and pressure tested the solenoids. I doubt it if they checked for shift...

DTC 85 is undefined gear ratio. Clean the passthrough connector There is a transmission range pressure switch. Gives feedback to the computer. Try this test. Clear codes. Drop into third. Drive vehicle in third. If no DTC 85 pops up then shift it into 4th. Clean passthrough connector...

4l80e time for a new one

After reading your posts: I wouldn't jump to a rebuild just yet. If you are slipping in third gear it could be simple, simple, simple. The debris in the pan tells me you have several things to look into. Depending on the year of the truck. If you have a Throttle position sensor...

Code 81 and not shifting out of first

Verify voltage at the plug first. Verify voltage going to the PCM. My books say there is an ignition feed. Not from the PCM. Let me know what year and model truck and I will try to PDF it I am 80% certain it is an ignition feed.

Code 81 and not shifting out of first

Yes: you can verify power. The transmission is supposed to drive in second gear only with the plug off. With no power The 1-2 shifting solenoid cannot be engaged. The 2 to 3 shifting solenoid cannot be engaged

Code 81 and not shifting out of first

There is. Pin E which is in the middle. E provides power to the 1-2 2-3 and the TCC soleniod. They are controlled by separate grounding Chances are you have power there. Doesn't hurt to check for power.
