Me personaly I would not give up just yet you know your 6.5, you don't know the Cummins or maybe you do, but if you do you also know they can have issues as well,,,,,,, expensive ones,,,,,, which is easy for me to say not knowing the full situation before you, but if it is a head gasket you are...
Not always about the math how something should work, proof is in pudding over long haul dynamically how it hold up, my setup has been there since 2008.
I'm not saying the HX or other turbos won't work and that it is also the cause of the problem or a contributor in this instance;
But...
Umm 8 grommets ???? for CDR that is a lot of bad grommets out there ?
Now that I think of it I'll check my (2) 98s to see if bad/hardened beyond service life,
Maybe if there is a need we could get one of our regular vendors to buy some and stock them +$9 ship & handling is some serious...
Not to digress too much( my apology to the OP for the derail) I'll add this: and if you want to discuss further we can do it in an independent thread in OT.
JR you comments are noted, but be that as it may;
New folks if we start using the sub forums like rest of the forum worlds do will...
Early on we sort of lumped all in one bag because it didn't matter with low traffic we had here, but traffic is up so we are trying to make the change so electrical goes to electrical, drivetrain to drivetrain etc. we move as makes sense if it isn't a model specific question/issue to where it...
Don I added to 6.2/6.5 TRL even though it is a electrical common problem all vehicles took me a while to find it as well as my searches were in this forum vs. electrical section where it was hiding out battery cables in electrical go figure :) I feel so dum looking here only :mad2:
It is called a compressor surge and bad ju-ju to the vanes of compressor/wheel if you surge it hard enough and a solid 1 piece part becomes a many piece part into the intake air tract the engine was not designed to nor likes to digest
Did you check alternator is it charging properly? how far gone were batts when replacing, bad batts kill alts, also look to last maintenance item, possibly did batt terminals loosen up since the batt swap,
were connections cleaned to bright shiney clean, and a corrosion inhibitor applied...
Another thought, if usings a factory style lift pump, trash in the outlet check of it could possibly let fuel drain back to the tank and maybe lose prime and your modified in tank pickup sucking air at low fuel level ?
Did you use a 6.5 sock with check valve in it or a gassser sock, it makes a difference, also does your former gasser tank have the baffle in it to keep from air being sucked into the fuel system in a turn with low level in tank sloshing over to one side?
Off top my head since we have cold snap on Gulf Coast rite now, you are having battery issues, I sent you a PM call me tomorrow clean terminals are a must, also the 2 positves left to right bank battery cable has a spacer connector between them that also has to be cleaned. if you have the...
Sealed system Al we get every bit as hot as you do in South Ms maybe even hotter at times and even towing to 18K I don't overheat, clean system, working fan clutch, stats and caps as designed are all that are required to keep the engine properly cooled.
Not ready to go there yet computers rarely go bad, you said new driver, new new or used but tested one, and new bought from where black or grey driver, mounted where ?
copy/paste this and answer as much as you can...
ko/ko for timing set is not same as ko/ko for theft learn timing is a minute or so, theft learn without scan tool takes about 45 minutes to complete and is a PITA
Yo Kev "pick up da phone man" reach out & touch someone did ya lose the # :)
KO/KO is as per Nobby's explanation, I'll add my experience also the hotter the better on coolant, I found out hard way if temp drops below 170F as seen by PCM/ECT not what your dash indicates there are (2) sensors...
