    GMT 800 Brake Upgrade

Am I missing something? Are they gold plated with diamond bling?

8.1L BBC, need tune for MPG.

No tune is going to give any real mpg increases that would offset the cost of the tune, unless you drove a ton of miles. As much as I've looked into getting a tune I've never done it. I'd like to disable the torque management but not going to spend the $$ just for that. With the dually setup...

    The End of an Era

Main thing I don't like when towing with a small block in the west here is having to listen to the engine screaming all the time because that's where the torque happens. It doesn't take much of a hill before they have to downshift. I don't really worry/care about the engine being able to...

    trailer brake controller

And as far as location, here's where I put mine. Didn't have to drill any holes at all, just used existing screw.

    TreadWright Fail

confirming your front marker lights are working? Third brake light is not a marker light IIRC.

Will the AC compressor kick in if it is low on Freon? 1994 K3500

You need a manifold for both high and low pressure to check the system for proper refrigerant amount. The compressor is in survival mode by not turning on. The refrigerant also contains the lubricant for it. Low refrigerant means low lubrication. Make sure you have the plastic caps on both...

    Retread tires, anyone have experience?

I've had treadwrights on my truck for a few years now. One did end up with a bubble in the tread section. Treadwright did replace it although communication with them was slow. Frankly for me the failure rate of those tires is right on par with the failure rate I've had with new tires.

    GVW difference

Not entirely sure myself. I try not to think about it too much. I believe the actual limiting factor on a DRW is the rating of the axle itself so that may be where the payload number comes from. The combined rating for all 4 tires on the back exceeds the axle rating, so the axle is what...

    GVW difference

OK, pulled out the info booklet for the 2005 model year Silverado For simplicity sake I'll only compare 3500, 4x4, crew cab, 8.1 engine, 4.10 axle, 8 foot bed: SRW vs DRW. All those variables end up changing the numbers slightly here and there. SRW: - GVWR 9,900 - Payload 3,806 - Ball...

    GVW difference

Dually have a higher GVWR. The "weakest link" on a SRW truck is the tire ratings. Dually "weakest link" tends to be axle rating, which is higher. Depending on which generation it's about 1,000 lbs-ish. Tow ratings are for the most part the same providing the only difference is DRW vs SRW...

OT, but still GM and unit bearing related

For me the original GM hubs on my Impala went bad at 80k miles. I bought some made in china cheapos off ebay and they lasted 150,000 miles. The second set of el-cheapo hubs were still on the car when I got rid of it at 240K miles.

OT, but still GM and unit bearing related

Hmm. Would almost consider myself an expert with that particular GM car. :D No, there shouldn't be any play in the hub. If those are original then you got your money out of them. Jack tire off the ground and grab 12:00 and 6:00. If you can feel any up and down wiggle then the hub is bad...

What branch of the military did you serve in?

Never served. Would never have passed the medical aspects. Do my best to protect on the home-front. Have nothing but upmost respect for those of you who have/are.

    1994 5.7L Tuning, MPG

What axle ratio? Without spending a lot of money your best bet would be to try and use non ethanol gas. Good luck finding it though in non premium. Should gain 1 or maybe 2 mpg.

The beast got a black eye.

I had found a replacement through a local junkyard. He had it shipped from another one. Turned out the other junkyard used a cutting torch to take the bumper off and also cut off the mounting locations. Stupid people anyway, turned a good looking bumper into a useless piece of metal. Long...

GM Is Playing The 1500 Diesel Game Again...

So here's my rambling thoughts about this. If they actually do this there will be some kind of silly restrictions like extended cab only or must include XXXX option in order to get the diesel, or not allowed to add XXXX option that really has nothing to do with the engine. It will also end up...

    If you hear me cursing......

It's not the wet grass I get worried about. It's the 2' of snow on top of ice, or 4" of nasty slimy mud and having to go up a steep incline. ;) . But like I've said before, the truck gets used for truck things. 95% of the time I'm driving my Saturn SL2. Heck, even during the winter on the...

The beast got a black eye.

Truck is driveable and not high on my list since our weather turned to crap and I don't want to deal with this in the cold and snow. Appreciate the offer. Looking like I can pick one up around here for a couple hundred. I don't know how much you would want, but I bet shipping would kill me.
