    GMT400 6.5 Swap Help

Good to know on the precup! Have stumbled across that term in my research on these engines but never knew exactly what they were referring to. Went back out in the garage and flipped the engine right side up. Sprayed a bunch of wd40 in the cylinders to soak overnight. Maybe that will help...

What do you think should be my next step here? Calling it a night, but will get back at it tomorrow. I appreciate the help.

The valve covers and the oil pan were a bear to get off of there. Pretty sure I tweaked the valve covers in a few different spots trying to pry up so that I could get my razor blade in there. Hopefully the valve covers on the blue truck aren't glued on like these things were. But, I managed...

The amount of rust concerns me as well. Pretty obvious this thing has been sitting for a WHILE. I did pull the crank pulley and put a socket on the balancer bolt to see if it wanted to turn over at all. Granted I didn't put a lot of effort into it, but it sure didn't feel like it wanted to...

Gonna get the other head pulled off, and then flip it and pull the pan tonight. Gonna know one way or another.

Engine date code is "09 11 M". I believe that means 2005. Lots of parts on the exterior of the engine had random loose bolts. Injector line nut was cracked. So far, everything inside appears to have been torqued. Well, it wasn't loose anyway.

Ok, gonna be lots of pics from here on out. Haven't been inside of an engine in a number of years. Hoping you guys can take a look at these pics and help me out. I'll just say that I have pretty low hopes for this engine now. Least I didn't pay $7500 for it. Lol Got it home and unloaded...

    Help please

My engine came from Connecticut and was shipped to me here in Arkansas. 3-day transit time via Old Dominion and cost was $439. Weight was 750lbs. Standard size pallet. Hope that helps

Will, I appreciate all of that info. Kinda bummed about part of it, but at least I know. My main goal was to stay away from that business out of NY. 😂 I'll get it pulled apart and then take some pics and post up for review on here. Hopefully we can make a diagnosis either way. Was hoping...

Yep! I read thru all 17 pages yesterday, and that's where I got the part numbers! Great info in there. I'm a sucker for stuff like that. My background is in electronics, so I plan to integrate the control system for the EV clutch into my vehicle PC that I'm building. It does stuff like...

Yep, I ordered the Promaxx heads for the truck intake. I was actually just doing research on here and it *appears* that my engine probably had a 4L80e behind it (since it's serpentine belt drive and not v-belt). That might mean it has the CPS and reluctor wheel already in place, which would be...

Looking forward to getting the GEP engine on the stand later this evening. I popped a couple holes in the shrink film and snapped some pics of the block. Got my fingers crossed that it's in good shape.....

    GMT400 6.5 Swap Help

First thing that comes to my mind is that there are literally ZERO machine shops around here that I would trust touching this engine. A good friend of mine (that helps me work on all my crazy projects) has a performance shop here and I'm constantly hearing bad stories about the local engine...

    GMT400 6.5 Swap Help

Sorry for all of the posts/info. Just putting it all out there so that hopefully I can get some good advice. Here's a quick summary of what I anticipate needing help with: Engine build Do I have the proper parts that I will need to build the GEP engine from the short block up? Where can I...

Complete side note, but I'll be using the Quadstar 6L90e kit on this build. Picked up a low-mile 2014 6L90e and t-case in anticipation of this. If you guys would like for me to document that in a separate thread when the time comes, I will do so.

    GMT400 6.5 Swap Help

I know from my limited research that I just can't drop that GEP motor in as it sits. And I just can't toss the truck intake and turbo setup on it and go. So my plan now is to tear it down to the short block, give it a once over, and then build it back up using truck parts. Does anyone have...

    GMT400 6.5 Swap Help

I know I need a good engine to start with. I do not know the history on the engine in the white truck. Cluster shows it has quite a few miles on it. I was "told" that the reason it was parked was due to some wiring issue at or around the fuse block. Fuse block does appear to be absolutely...

    GMT400 6.5 Swap Help

I also picked up another 98 model just because I saw it pop up on marketplace and I got it for cheap. So I figure if something happens to be wrong with a part on the blue truck, maybe the white truck has it??

    GMT400 6.5 Swap Help

Most have suggested that I just toss in a mechanical engine and call it a day. Sure, that would be pretty easy but I just can't do that. I really want this to be as close to a "factory" setup as possible. That means using an electronic engine. I really don't know WHAT all parts I need in...
